They don’t care. They really don’t. They’re so wrapped up in themselves (and probably some background chicanery related to what’s going on overseas) that they cannot see the forest for the trees.
At least with the Senate, the third of them that are up for election run the risk of having themselves outted as treasonists in time for midterms.

Ummmmm…sorry, but they’re called Maultaschen, not Mahltaschen. Maul means ‘mouth’ (generally an animal – related to the English ‘maw’ – a sort of rude version when talking about humans…)

BREAKINGWestern allies will remove Russian banks from Swift
The EU, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States have just released a co-ordinated statement condemning the Russian invasion.
“As Russian forces unleash their assault on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, we are resolved to continue imposing costs on Russia that will further isolate Russia from the international financial system and our economies,” they say.
Measures to be implemented in the coming days include removing “selected Russian banks from the Swift messaging system”.
“This will ensure that these banks are disconnected from the international financial system and harm their ability to operate globally.”
Swift is the global financial artery that allows the smooth and rapid transfer of money across borders.

Right? There’s an element of all this wherein we are watching a dude who could otherwise be characterized as a super-genius get magically and thoroughly consumed by his own arrogance. Everything Putin built all his life…reputation, respect, stability in Russia…all of it is now in question because he chose to be inhumane in the extreme. The question is not whether he survives this, but who ultimately kills him for it. His oligarchs are not happy.

There’s some symbolism here too. Shutting the banks off directly may have accomplished a good portion of the economic isolation, so this may just be icing on the cake. Can’t hurt.
