You are correct. The U.S. may never recover…but if we do, it will be because of people like Stacey Abrams, Raphael Warnock, Jon Ossoff, GA voters and everyone here on TPM who have, in their own way, fought back from Trump, Trumpism and the GOP.
It was bad enough when she laid on the tarmac outside of Jonestown, but to be pinned down in her own House? Beyond disgraceful.

The co-conspirators and enablers in the Capitol Police and other federal law enforcement must be rooted out — this could only happen with the tacit approval or tolerance of at least some of these folks. Ask yourself this — if armed BLM protestors had tried to storm the Capitol, how far do you think they would have gotten before being gassed and shot to pieces?

And any member of either the House or Senate who incited these traitors needs to be charged and expelled from Congress by the new Dem majority. Enough is indeed enough. They are traitors and terrorists, and need to be treated as such.
That will be a start. For me the deciding factor will be how the GOP reacts after this debacle. I think Donnie has torpedoed any chance of running in 2024 (it was only for the grift anyway), but if the GOP and Ronna Not-a-Romney McDaniels continue to embrace Trumpism and not repudiate Junior or Ivankadonk, but rather let them continue to be major players in the party, I think it will be a very, very, very long time before the US recovers its reputation on the world stage.
The next few weeks / months will let us know whether there will be a schism or whether the party of Trump just shrugs and moves on.
