A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Off The Charts Crazy I’ll catch you up on the rest of the news from over the long weekend in a moment, but first I wanted to give you just a taste of the level…

Where dies Trump come up with all these assholes to appoint?

Ukko says he has no fucking clue.

He’s also pretty sure it’s DJTJrs cocaine, that he misplaced at 3am one evening.

ETA: One other thing I am happy about is that Trump does a lot of posting at 2am on his app. That gives plenty of time for people to capture what he really thinks when he does things without his handlers present. That original Memorial Day tweet was completely out of place and you wouldn’t see any other head of state saying anything like that except for our 3yr old president. FUCK TRUMP.

the 2023 discovery of cocaine in the Biden White House;

Wasn’t that just Jr.'s misplaced stash?

We were steeled for the retributive attacks on the Trump and Jan. 6 prosecutions, but what is beginning to emerge is a three-prong revisionist attack on the rule of law that attempts to target: (i) other past prosecutions of right-wing extremists; (ii) public corruption convictions of every style and flavor; and (iii) other MAGA hobby horses and conspiracy theories

Let’s give it up for the party of “Law and Order” everyone.

And of course we won’t see vocal and widespread condemnation of any of this from elected Democrats because once again they “be the bigger person” and won’t miss a chance to not call attention to all the ways that Republicans are actively harming the lives of Americans.

USA Today: “President Donald Trump used the presidential seal at his multi-million-dollar dinner with crypto investors despite the White House saying it was a private rather than official event, according to a social media post from a Chinese billionaire who attended the event.”

Wasn’t this the one last week, when questioned about the ethics of the event, we were told the First Felon was doing this on his personal time (which we all laughed at because a POTUS doesn’t GET personal time while in office)??

Overlooked at times due to the massive other disasters, the grift rolls on - and it’s an exclusive club.

Donald Trump Jr. owns the club along with Zach and Alex Witkoff, sons of President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff; Omeed Malik, head of 1789 Capital; and Chris Buskirk, an ally of Vice President JD Vance.

With a hefty joining fee reportedly as much as $500,000, the club is expected to have up to 200 members and requires more than just money to gain entry. For a start, a spokesperson for the club said, “You have to know the owners.”

Who can’t join? Journalists (obviously) and Bush-era Rethuglicans among others

Trump and his underlings are determined to corrupt every aspect of American society. And with a little help from our elites, like Jeff Bezos, the TV network bosses, and university trustees, he’ll succeed.

Before reading the MM, I want to share this free link to an article about the Erie Canal, completed 200 years ago. Interesting article with very interesting comments (unusually for WaPo) which correct impressions left by the article and expand on the story it tells. The story of the Erie Canal should prompt reflection on parallels to, and differences from, our country now and our country then.

Boy, I would love to have a half mil to throw around on something this worthless.

Really speaks to the need for higher tax rates on the wealthy.

We keep pointing out the problem again and again, ad nauseum. Yet we still have no solution. Hoping for a win in the midterms or the courts is lazy, pointless and masturbatory. You cannot defeat an enemy who doesn’t give a fuck about the rules. But as a black commentator recently said, white people can protest and retreat inside our whiteness. Truer words were never spoken. I wonder how many keyboard warriors on here ever one put their asses on the line, and no I do not mean military service. Who the fuck cares? I mean put your ass on the line with no backup and a real chance of serious harm to your career or life? I’m going with “Never” for $200 Alex.

And 70% of the American people agree with him. This will continue until Dem leadership figures out a coherent message on the subject that doesn’t piss off voters, even if it upsets part of the traditional Dem coalition. Newsom gets it.
