What worries me is that someone (Stephen Miller, probably) is going to point out to the president that if he, as an “official act,” actually did try to revoke her citizenship, he might in fact get away with it. What’s to stop him now from doing whatever he can get away with as an “official act” except decency, of which he has none, or institutional resistance, which he’s rapidly purging? These are dangerous days.

I’d just like to think that the consequences will move the great noncommitted to get off their asses. The rest of us are already howling, already filing lawsuits, already pushing back.
But this is the president we’ve got and this is the Congress and judiciary that’s going to keep him supported, so any way to save democracy is going to have to come from the grass roots. And it’s gonna take a lot to make them turn away from TikTok.

On a side note, this morning I wondered if anyone is tracking how many of the 1500 Jan 6 pardonees don’t survive the next four years–drunk driving crashes, negligent discharges, fentanyl overdoses, right-wing internecine violence, meth lab explosions, etc. They’re not freeing their best people.

After two and a half month political break I am ready to dip my toe in again. It was wonderful to ignore the overwrought post election commentary. Everything that happens going forward is on them and my neighbors who voted for him. Unlike the late unlamented Rush Limbaugh I don’t hope for failure. It’s just that he’s a boob and nothing good can come of this except that he gets older by the day and we are one day closer to the end of this cult.
