Worth watching Chris Murphy give Kristi Noem a complete dressing down and reality check on her brazen, illegal and immoral behavior as head of DHS. Also, that by July she will have caused an entire agency to go broke from misappropriated funds. Noem looks like a deer in the headlights so its again worth every minute watching.

First tRump illegally fires the Librarian of Congress in a two sentence letter letting her go, now he illegally fires the top US official for copyright law, which had been chosen by the Librarian of Congress. This apparently has everything to do with AI…that generally means Musk when it comes to this maladministration.
It probably also provides favors for other rich pricks that want some special treatment and expedited attention for copyrights.

Trump is bullshitting, no surprise there, but the dynamics of geopolitics are quite interesting at the moment. Putin had to wake up the press corps at 2 am this morning to hold a press conference at which he presented the non-starter call for “direct talks” with Ukraine, and to which Zelensky has since replied, “sure as long as the ceasefire starts tomorrow (Monday)”. Not only has Putin again failed to play for time and made Trump again look like a chump, he now faces some real consequences. China is not pleased and may be taking over the “direct” talks itself, basically using Putin as proxy. So much for Greater Russia and Russky Mir. Putin a couple days ago was talking about mediating the India-Pakistan dispute, following JD Vance’s announcement that the US would not get involved, only to have Trump yesterday bragging he and Marco had secured a ceasefire. Oh, and Iranian nuke talks, Syria, Gaza and West Bank, Houthis, Sudan, DRC, and so forth. Putin has long used stirring up trouble elsewhere to take the focus off his own problems at home. Now with Russian export oil prices below $50 a barrel, the UK and EU going after Russia’s shadow fleet, the Kremlin is in panic mode. Russians are extremely docile until they are not. Now if ever Trump needs competent national security advice and all the soft-power resources gifted to him by the past 45 presidents. You don’t just slam the brakes on the global economy and expect no consequences.

In the Attention Economy, you get power by knowing your customer and then selling that information at robot auction. Digital advertising is not only extremely lucrative for such platforms as Google and Meta (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram), it also relies on disinformation to drive attention. This is probably what the Great Heist is mostly about, accessing all the data the US has on its citizens and everybody else that is not yet controlled by the tech behemoths. The problem is that attention vending is algorithm-driven, happening on far larger and faster scales than humans can follow. In Elon’s “free speech” world, the hope is that disinformation can run free and increase platform revenues. How much money, for example, did Mark Zuckerberg make on the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar as FB had zero moderation of Burmese language postings? The world has transitioned from an information-poor analog world of law and politics that still existed even in the 1970s to an “information”-rich digital world with robots desperate for you to pay you attention to them and not some other tech bro’s robots.

Of course, the attention-giving viewer/user is the product. They are customers in one sense in that they pay with their attention, not money. This is quite useful in some demographic groups like children. People are such good customers in South Korea, that there are special sidewalks for phone-obsessed people to prevent them from getting mowed down by a car. in If you are Peter Thiel, your company Palantir may have multiple customers, not just the US government. It’s a national security nightmare even without reflecting on the fact that Tulsi Gabbard is our director of national intelligence. (Chef’s kiss).
