I think the Sydney Sweeney news cycle illustrates how desperate Republicans are to forget about Epstein & the jobs report & the looming recession & the erosion of democracy. It took about 20 tries to find something they cared about more than Epstein, but someone finally found a pretty Republican white girl who was supposedly done wrong by the evils of Demonrat cancel culture. Pathetic in so many ways.

If Sweeney’s genes are blue she’s much like me. Dad was a chief stewart for his section of the Illinois Bell IBEW. I was AFSCME office stewart for a couple years, until I changed jobs.
Sweeney is Irish. Mom was a Murphy. Maybe we’re related.

So the entire Sweeney thing is echo chamber politics made up by Republican politicians to drown out bad news.
Might work if they actually quit bringing up Epstein and people suddenly did not need to go to the grocery store. But they do, and on their own. And people eat.

Then the Democrats are dickless failures for not having a quick, sharp, simple retort that works for every occasion, one that even the average American imbecile can understand. But they don’t. It’s s simple as saying, “Once again Trump and his obedient cult are inventing left wing bogeymen to distract you from their crimes because they’re counting on your being THAT stupid and if you fall for it again, you pretty much are. There is no story here, this is bullshit Period.”
Yes it’s offensive and intended to be so. His cult is NEVER going to listen to a Democrat no matter what we say, so calling them stupid is appropriate. Besides, all we need to do is peel off a handful of wavering independents each time. A visibly angry response with some fight in it given with a stern backbone goes a long way.

So there is a recent urging from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) that Dems refuse to vote for any legislation unless the White House guarantees that funds will be distributed as appropriated. And a Trump WH guarantee is worth what, exactly?

Less than nothing.
The problem is the toddler has a hand grenade and can do massive damage (government shutdown) so the responsible grown ups have to try to put the pin back in, because with TSF in charge during a shut down he can decide huge swathes of the government are non-essential (e.g. USDA inspectors, the entire IRS, NASA etc etc) so I don’t see a viable option for the Dems other than an Act of Dog removing TSF from this mortal coil. TSF will do whatever he wants if the is a CR or budget, and do whatever he wants with more pain for the few remaining Fed workers if there is a shutdown.
When the hostage taker has no qualms about shooting the hostage, the sane side has no leverage.

Except it’s not a hostage situation. The voters gave Republicans all three branches of government, complete and total control. The hostage put the gun to his own head. All Dems should be saying is the Republicans control the entire government, WH, House, Senate, S.Ct, and majority of governorships, so if voters want Dems to repair the damage Republicans are causing they need to vote for Dem super majorities and vote Blue up and down the ticket. And let Republicans fail. If they shut down the government, so be it. Tell voters to vote straight Democratic if they want a government that works and does not shut down. Dems need to stop grabbing ownership of the dog piles that Republicans create.

Bingo! I think you’ve got it – and the key to an effective Democratic response. Whenever a “journalist” or talking head asks about Sweeney, just reply that the whole thing is the Republicans desperately trying to distract from [cite the list]. Add that the whole kerfuffle was kicked off by some kid posting smack on social media, and not the DNC, which further illustrates the sweaty desperation of the Republican Party.
This ought to provide a good, long filibuster against even more trivial and stupid questions, by the way, and give us in the Base something to cheer about.
Also, that’s one beautiful cat.
