May it be so! The turtle comes in last. Maybe he’s getting ready to hang up the shell.

To also include Burr and Portman from your list. Burr is done and Portman says he’s retiring. Great opportunities for Democrats.

We will see if the Senate can get it done, and or if Nancy can keep the house in line.

The Senate can get it done. Sanders has already stated they have the votes (50). Pelosi has the bigger challenge.

Will someone please muzzle that animal?

They can’t help themselves.

Wait for the inevitable “This really isn’t the big win Joe Biden needed” chorus to begin!

Without the Progressive Caucus she doesn’t have the votes, that’s why.

That sure involved a lot of spectacle for something that was not the main event.

Be assured that Speaker Pelosi is in control of her caucus.

Are there sadder words in English than “We used to be friends”? Maybe not.

(But since Trump has never had any friends, it’s immaterial here.)

Bravo to the pros (Harris, Biden, Klain, Schumer, Pelosi, Sanders, etc.) not an amateur among 'em…and the hundreds of meetings behind the scenes as well…

"Now is the moment those on the left flank of the caucus have been waiting for — the crafting of the reconciliation package. "
… … …
Whatever is crafted it will never past the Goobers. It could include a rider that every Goober senator would be handed a check for $1 BILLION IN PERSONAL FUNDS and they’d still vote “no way”. This is dead before birthed.

They might get sidelined for some things but, sadly, as long at the Jim Crow filibuster keeps Voting Rights being passed, they still have power.

From CNN, the 17 Republicans

Here are the 17 Republican senators who voted to advance the $1 trillion infrastructure bill

Devan Cole
By Ali Zaslav and Devan Cole, CNN

The vote was 67-32.

Here are the 17 Republican senators who voted to advance the bipartisan infrastructure plan:

  • Roy Blunt of Missouri
  • Richard Burr of North Carolina
  • Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia
  • Bill Cassidy of Louisiana
  • Susan Collins of Maine
  • Kevin Cramer of North Dakota
  • Mike Crapo of Idaho
  • Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
  • Chuck Grassley of Iowa
  • John Hoeven of North Dakota
  • Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
  • Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
  • Rob Portman of Ohio
  • Jim Risch of Idaho
  • Mitt Romney of Utah
  • Thom Tillis of North Carolina
  • Todd Young of Indiana
Add Wicker of Mississippi and Sullivan of Alaska, per changes in the original CNN article. Looks like Texas, Florida, and Tennessee are preparing to secede from the Union (again). No “yes” votes from those wealthy states, full of healthy people.

Great Post…

That is old-style thinking by Biden. In addition, he can’t be goaded…emotionally

Except Mark Kelly, who also knows about the local conditions in AZ and is up for reelection in 2022, but (according to wikipedia):

From December 2020 to June 2021, Kelly missed 0 of 297 roll call votes.

As of June 2021, Kelly had voted in line with President Joe Biden’s stated position 100% of the time.

If Sinema’s actions were about winning in AZ, I would expect Kelly to be doing them too (and maybe more since he’s up for reelection sooner). The fact that he isn’t strongly suggests to me that what Sinema is doing is not required to represent/win in AZ.

It also doesn’t help that her actions are putting vulnerable Democrats in other states at higher risk of losing. Not a team player and not necessary to win in AZ screams to me the need for a political intervention.

I think Joe and Jill B. are genuinely sad about what’s happened to Lindsey Graham. Trump and McConnell, not so much.

Old-style in the good way, to be sure. And it’s funny about the emotional part, because Joe certainly doesn’t hold back his emotions. When he’s angry, he shows it. When he’s happy, ditto (“this is a big fucking deal”).

But he has control over his emotions, and not (as with the previous occupant) the other way round.

I certainly agree…Joe seems to have a good feeling about himself and his purpose for being POTUS…

Nothing short 100-0 will win the paeans to “bipartisanship.”
