My non-lawyer $.02… The amendment doesn’t require a conviction, but I think the larger issue is that it’s badly written and doesn’t define what qualifies as insurrection.
When it was enacted, it clearly meant participation in the recent Civil War. In the modern era, the court isn’t going to want to have each future challenge bumped up to SCOTUS for them to decide if someone “insurrects” or not, so my guess is they’ll punt it to Congress, saying that Congress needs to enact a law that defines insurrection and disqualification from the ballots.
No, he isn’t a pollster, but he is a congressman who voted in favor of Trump’s first impeachment. He did not seek reelection, and Peter Meijer won in the next election. He subsequently voted to impeach Trump, too, in the second impeachment, was ultimately primaried and lost his seat.

Their fault

I have learned much to my surprise our Cobstitution has failed us in these days of a President who set out to test the constitution.
