Oh, forgive me for going down this path …
“Disease” is a medical / scientific term - one that has a “common usage” interpretation that strays from its medical /scientific definition.
In general conversation, when “disease” is mentioned it is frequently thought to be something contagious, something you can “catch” …
But the medical / scientific definition is far beyond that - it is:
“An abnormal condition of a part, organ, or system of an organism resulting from various causes, such as infection, inflammation, environmental factors, or genetic defect, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs, symptoms, or both.”
Hence … Heart Disease, Joint Disease, Lung Disease … and so on … all including a long list of various causes - life style, environment, parasitic, viral, bacterial .
The broad all encompassing medical / scientific definition of Disease - is how Aocholism, drug addiction, obesity, and mental illness are medically / scientifically correctly categorized as Disease.
Yes, it does not quite match with the general impression of what Disease means …
