This story would have died if ThinSkin had not blown up about it. You don’t put out a flickering ember by pouring gasoline on it
Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help
.
Trump is a liar and a serial adulterer. His rallies are known for their vulgarity and profanity. His policies separate mothers and fathers from their children which is decidedly anti-family and profoundly cruel. I welcome any Evangelical Christian walking away from Trump. The rest of them need to take a cold hard look at him and themselves and reflect on if he is really worth it. Indeed, what would Jesus do?
This all feels completely disingenuous to me—there is no way to reconcile the Bible with Trump. He’s not “flawed” he is the very embodiment of everything the Bible warns about. You cannot take the Bible seriously and not see Trump for what he is. Sure, Jesus will forgive anything if you admit what you’ve done wrong and ask forgiveness—but that’s one thing Trump absolutely refuses to do under any circumstances. It’s such a low bar almost any figure in history could claim to have asked forgiveness and be saved—but not this man. He will not admit fault and will not ask forgiveness so he cannot be saved by their rules, period.
Evangelicals are saying “f*** the Bible” by supporting Trump and if 200 top evangelical leaders are on board then, well, it would force any true believer to doubt. This isn’t a crisis—this is a religion falling apart at the seams.
Just like so many other social constructs, the more the group veers towards purity the more they turn from inclusion. You can have your beliefs, you can stick to your creeds, but in the end it comes down to how far are you willing to live inside a shrinking bubble.
Unfortunately, very few. But again is not that the evangelical churches turned people into mean-spirited bigots. They flocked to those churches because they already were. Something about America that is both good and bad is that you have choices for pretty much everything: are you a greedy materialistic showoff? There is a prosperity Megachurch for you were that behavior is biblical justified and encouraged? You are pious hypocrite racist filled with self-righteous rage? There are Southern Baptist churches for you to choose from. You don’t like the way that mainstream media talks about Trump? Well there is Fox News where even the most boorish and outright criminal behavior is excudsed and critics condemned as out of touch snowflakes.
Greed is a powerful motivator.
Evangelicals will find the proper quote to show you that Trump is actually the Messiah that came to deliver them from the evil colored people.
Trump thinks that the more you pour gas on something, then the lighting makes him look better.
The entire religious right movement has never been about morals. It has been about power. It is a coalition of convenience for Republicans and evangelicals. It will be unmade when it stops being a win-win for the two bases.
Although that Roman Catholic church has been consistently anti-abortion, back when Roe v Wade was decided, evangelicals by protestants, by and large didn’t have a problem with it. It is easy to google position statements by multiple official organs stating as such. Eg
Take a seat while you wait, you might get tired. Evangelicals had trouble walking away from lynchings, they actually took it as a family outing.
And let’s not be silly here either: blaming it on Christian/Protestant evanglism is equivalent to blaming it on “economic anxiety.” We all know what the fuck underlies all of it at its rotting white core. That’s right.
ALL. OF. IT. MOTHERFUCKERS.
OT…I’m not ashamed to celebrate it…
Can’t wait for Limbaugh to go too.
So evangelicals viewed America as in “moral decline,” and they welcomed Trump as someone who would fight against that. Wow. Try to get your head around that.
Their inability to see Trump as a warrior in the cause of moral decline has revealed Trump-supporting evangelicals as another manifestation of moral decline–basically a demographic that has deteriorated from religious fundamentalism into a right-wing grifter mafia.
What state does she live in?
There are more than you might think. They’re just not the loud TV ones who hug Trump.

It’s simple really. First you have to understand that when white Christian evangelicals talk about things like “moral decline”, what they mean is that white Christian dominance and control over governance and culture is waning AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MORALITY. Morality or “values” are merely relativistic, malleable, manipulable concepts they adapt to fit the argument necessary at the moment.
“Us” & “Them” is not helpful, even when “They” make false generalizations about “Us” and “We” are tempted (to use one of “Their” terms) to respond. Have faith (sic) — Trump is digging his own metaphorical grave. For myself, I shall try not to gloat at his downfall; and probably fail. Bad me.
