A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Intellectually Dishonest Before we move on to the aftermath of the abortion pill ruling from Friday, it needs to sink in how bad U.S….
I know the law requires reasonable bail be set for those arrested. But read this and tell me why the hell it couldn’t have been $1,000,000? Should this guy even be out?
“Kurts had a bail hearing Monday morning and had his bail set at $100,000 with conditions — which include not having any dangerous weapons — or $200,000 without conditions. His next hearing is set for April 21.”
And I guess if he ponies up an extra $100k he’s allowed dangerous weapons?
I haven’t stopped thinking about how bad the ruling is because it’s so blatantly pushing the farthest of Christian right agendas. He deserves to lose his job for it, it’s THAT bad. Any judge with integrity shouldn’t want this joker anywhere near the bench: he just made a farce of the entire profession. Maybe even more so than Clarence Thomas!
I posted this in the other thread, but if you haven’t read the entire pharma industry’s letter you totally should. I have a feeling some Republicans are gonna make calls to “just good friends” on the 5th Circuit and tell them to overrule “Judge” K’s meddling asap. Can’t afford to lose these donors.
I would think that the appellate court or the SCOTUS has to shoot this down, for the very reason that otherwise, any “controversial” drug/vax/treatment will be given the exact same glidepath to be deemed unapproved by this judge. Pharmaceutical companies would lose their minds if they could not be certain an established drug (read: steady source of income) would stay this way approved, esp. decades later.
Basically, it upends all certainty and motive for drug companies to develop and sell within the US. For an ostensibly pro-business SCOTUS, allowing this to happen would be unthinkable.
