This article is part of TPM Cafe, TPM’s home for opinion and news analysis. The Democrats have a secret weapon in their effort to defeat Donald Trump. At least 26 former top Trump administration officials — including Cabinet members and his Vice President — have said that Trump is unfit to be president. They’ve expressed their…
Too bad some of these folks didn’t express themselves sooner. Just look at how many candidates for state office have modeled themselves as all in for DonOLD.
DonOLD then and now is first and foremost for himself. It boggles my mind that others are so far gone that they can’t see this.
I would hardly call people who once criticized him, then have fallen back in line to say they will now vote for him a “secret weapon”. The democrats are always “worse”. It’s ridiculous.
Bolton says he won’t vote for TMF, but will work to keep the Senate in fascist hands.
So he’s still a treasonous little weasel walrus.
Five Deferment Don loaded up on Generals who he knew, in his sick mind, were manly men who did manly things in combat. Something the coward of Country never had the guts to do.
You can not take your body guards and your dad’s money in combat so he dodges.
It appears to me Trump wanted to bask in their glory and they would kiss his butt and act like who was a real man not a wimp male.
Maybe these Generals will live up to their oath and let everyone know the true POS and coward Trump is, was and ever shall be.
I recall the 2004 Swift Boat campaign against John Kerry. This list of names presents a unique opportunity to launch a similar attack against TFG. How many former administration officials want absolutely nothing to do with the former president? This is unprecedented in its number and vitriol. A decent campaign strategist would be lining up these disaffected administration veterans to swift-boat TFG’s campaign.
Off in the distance, karma howls like a female dog.
Man, print that and stick it up on telephone poles all over the country. Especially near voting sites.
Bill Barr deserves a special mention: “I don’t think he should be near the Oval Office"… He also said “Voting for Trump is playing Russian roulette with the country” … but he later said that “it’s inconceivable to me that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee.”
Also unprecedented is the number of them Trump has tried to have killed or wants to see dead. That is unprecedented too. Pence and Milley come to mind for starters. Only two, but Jesus Christ, ain’t that enough folks?
Definitely a golden means to attack Trump, but not really similar to the Swift Boat garbage, which was all Trumpy lies.
“We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution,” Mattis said.
I include John Roberts and the FedSoc Five on that list.
And so will posterity, when the United States has succumbed to rampant corruption.
But the judges and legal profession don’t, and won’t. They are too far gone.
I’m curious as to why in all these years no one has demanded an apology from the old orange guy for any of the myriad provable lies he has told. His brand is domination so he would appear diminished, whether he apologized or refused to apologize because he would be seen as denying reality in real-time. The only time this fool ever apologized was after the “Access Hollywood” tape.
Too little. Too late. Some of these folks enabled and contributed to Trump’s lawlessness. Others were opportunistic buffoons. Speaking up against Trump now seems more like an attempt to rehabilitate their reputation than an honest attempt to save democracy.
Really, already with this.
They’ve expressed their concerns about his character, his leadership, his impulsiveness, and his narcissism, among other traits
Only a simple, gut-turning message will get through to potential influenceable voters.
- Trump had many generals in his last administration. They say he was a bad leader. They say he caved to our enemies to benefit himself. They say he should not get another turn in the White House.
- Trump has gone dark. He peddles hate and division. This isn’t who should be President.
- You should see Trump up close like I have. He is old, pretty overweight, nearly bald, wearing a girdle and a diaper, and lying about his height. Do you want a President who lies about his height?
- The Trump you see on TV is the creation of a marketing department. Wake up.
Walruses do not change their spots.
Off topic, but where are his tax returns? The ones he promised to distribute last time but didn’t.
I think…hope really…that what we are seeing is the final destruction of Donald J. Trump. Sure the base, all 32% of them will vote for the convicted felon, but having these people who once served alongside Trump speak out with as much venom as they have has to have an effect on undecided voters. And they, alongside Democrats will finally put this grifter where he belongs…in the several courtrooms, facing conviction for his many crimes. And we will finally, at long last convict him in the public arena for being such an egregious asshole
Don’t despair. It’s entirely possible that several of these people will be paraded out, one after another, during the Democratic convention to share horror stories about what it was like to work in the Trump White House. That would be very effective if it were to happen.
We know all this. It’s not secret.
What would be helpful is information on, and more suggestions for, using these people and their experiences and opinions in the Harris-Waltz campaign. Will some of them be helping the Lincoln Project, for example? Good idea above about parading them out during the Dem convention, but that’s probably not going to happen.
It’s hard to take any of these peoples’ complaints about Trump seriously if they won’t, now, come out publicly and affirm they will vote for Harris because defeating Trump is more important than any specific ideology.
