The Deeply Racist Dimensions To Ashli Babbitt’s Martyrdom | Talking Points Memo

“Who killed Ashli Babbitt?”

It’s a question that, in recent weeks, has become a mainstream rallying cry among the MAGA crew after growing in volume for months on the far-right fringes. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has asked it repeatedly, as has former President Donald Trump himself.

The ads on the insurrection write themselves. This lunatic trend convinces no one not already immersed and steeped in White supremacy.

Babbitt died from propaganda. She was a star at consuming and spreading propaganda. Martyrdum. You might think that a soldier sworn to military defense of country wouldn’t spread dis-information and hate about the US Commander-in-chief, but she did. Apparently she survived military service without dying. I guess in prior work, she previously never had the duty of trying to abduct the Speaker of the House or killing the V.P. of the USA.

The nut jobs are trying to make terrorist #5, AKA Babbitt - look not as awful. I think the recent straight talk by our President and others will prevail. The 1/6 House select committee should be able to assist in figuring out the answer of whose responsibility this woman was. One thing for sure, the Capitol Police were not ‘itching for a fight.’ This Republican B.S. will be seen for the distraction from the truth that it is, once the 1/6 hearings begin.

"…it’s now official: no people were killed by the nationalist demonstrators on January 6th,” wrote far-right propagandist Erik Striker in April.

Excepting the “Don’t Tread on Me” lady who was trod upon (to death) by her fellow white nationalists.

“If that were the opposite way, that man would be all over,” Trump said. “He would be the most well-known — and I believe I can say ‘man,’ because I believe I know exactly who it is — but he would be the most well-known person in this country, in the world.”

I have to imagine he doesn’t have a clue who it is. I can’t see a world where he would be able to keep his mouth shut about the identity if he had an inkling. This is just more “we’re releasing the tax returns next week” bullshitting. He’s just mouthing off with what the crowd wants to hear.

Failed to comply. Failed to comply. That should ring a few deeply racist bells.

Back to reality. It doesn’t matter which of the police officers holding guns on the mob fired. They were one and all fully justified in using deadly force to protect Congress members who were still in the next room. Any one of the rest of the true believers mob would also have been shot if they had followed what’s her name through the smashed glass.

These descriptions of “martyr” Ashli Babbitt work best to influence those who didn’t see the video of her smashing the glass on the door to the House chamber, pushing her body through the space while the officer, body hidden but gun drawn and completely visible to Babbitt and the camera, shouts repeatedly for her to retreat.

She was a violent terrorist who failed to comply with the firm, clear, and explicit instructions of law enforcement. It’s a shame that she and her cohorts have been radicalized and led away from American principles and the Constitution. For that, it’s regrettable that a human life had to be ended.

But it’s incontrovertible that Babbitt’s own actions led to her death. The video evidence should be more widely distributed to counter the pro-terrorist false narrative.

Of course it’s ok for white police officers to shoot an unarmed Black women in bed.

Never let facts get in the way of a good narrative.

The Right has no other means of fundraising if they can’t ignite and foment rage against the people in charge. That’s all this is.

Apparently the woman who was trampled to death by white Trump supporters is being memory holed. Her name was Roseann Boyland. The LEO with the drawn gun was visible, there is audio video evidence of someone alerting the crowd to the agent with the drawn gun, wild ass speculation that the agent was black Ashli Babbitt was attempting an illegal entry through a broken window to the House Floor to harm members of Congress, she was shot. She is not a hero. She was a misguided criminal.

“The only homicide victim that day was Ashli Babbitt, murdered by a black criminal with a badge whose identity is still being kept a secret by the media and the government.”

Babbitt was shot and killed on Jan. 6 after trying to break through a window into the House Speaker’s Lobby

My recollection is she was shot while attempting to wriggle through an already broken out window in the door to the lobby. Just to be clear: she was not shot for breaking a window, but for entering with intent to unlock the doors from the inside.

The mythologizing of Ashli Babbitt is rapidly approaching Horst Wessel territory.

All Trump, Cosar, Fox News and fellow travelers want to do is to further arouse racial animus among the extreme white!

That innocent, small, sweet avatar of martyred white womanhood was just at the head of a pack that had brutally forced their way past police into the Capitol and were baying for the Vice President’s blood. But never mind the details.

These people aren’t using dog whistles any more; they are blowing tubas. Let’s not pretend that this is anything other than creeping authoritarianism/fascism.

Simple answer: “A brave Patriot who was performing his sacred duty as a Capitol Police officer to serve and protect the 435 members of Congress of the United States”. Anything beyond this would subject this officer to undue risk of violent abuse.

Or in the back through a window, while she is sitting on her couch playing a video game with her nephew.

I keep wondering the same thing. What does her husband have to say about the peaceful tourists who trampled her to death?

These memes that the RWNJs are trying to propagate about 1/6 in general and Babbitt in particular make me think of large crowds of white people, men with their sleeves rolled up and women fanning themselves, all staring with mouths agape at a black man who has been lynched for “dishonoring” a white woman. The kids are running around in the crowd playing tag, and the adults all have a satisfied look on their faces like they just had sex.

Yeah, this is super ugly stuff

Racism is not rational, but it is popular with the deplorables crowd.

Just a reminder of what an “innocent, wonderful, incredible woman” we’re talking about here:
