The Day Of Reckoning Over BIF And Reconciliation Is Upon Us | Talking Points Memo

Joe has at all times been clear that “two tracks” means he wants the BIF to pass before reconciliation. Gottheimer has been explicit on that too. Release the BIF hostage so they can kill or maim the reconciliation hostage – those are the two tracks.

Kill the goddamn BIF.

Not a lot of political wisdom going on here. Even TPM is a guilty of that naivete. If “progressives” are anyway involved in tanking this legislation they alone will be blamed for the tank. Manchin will walk way unscathed. So will Sinema. That’s how it works.

Proud of Jayapal…

And high hopes that less posters muse about emigrating to other lands. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

“I think we can get a good bill done. I really do, if we work in good faith,” he added.

Says the man not working in good faith

He may not be working in good faith, but he probably is the only person (or type of person) Sinema would listen to.

If Joe signs on the dotted line, a requirement from him should be to talk to the teenager named Sinema.

Actually, about the first demonstration of Democrats possibly developing a backbone in decades.

It just seems like it’s a bad idea because we’ve happily lost everything for decades by settling for much less, mumbling to ourselves that at least a slice of moldy three-day-old pizza dug out of the garbage was better than nothing, rather than tossing the bag out.

There are damn good reasons why I don’t like sausage. Pork being one. And sausage is a lot like politics. Crap in a casing dressed up tp look pretty.

If Jayapal had not drawn that line, those two (S&M) would have been insufferable.

Now she just has to deliver. If she does, goes a long way towards telling those two that they don’t get to dictate things to the entire party.

All those Ds at that fucking baseball game is a really bad look. Better to forfeit the game to give themselves a better shot at the infrastructure win in Congress than to forfeit the Biden agenda for a shot at winning a baseball game.

It also makes them look unserious and out of touch, which kills them in elections, much worse than it does republicans.

Um, hate to break it to TPM, but the teaser doesn’t match the statement. If anything, he just ditched the entire impetus of the reconciliation bill - addressing climate change, strengthening the social safety net, etc - for a little tweaking on the tax code.

But, hey, Sinema clarified that she’s in the Senate yesterday, not the House, so we’re making progress there too, it seems.

When Republicans campaign in 2022 and 2024 claiming Dems can’t govern (setting aside their culpability behind it all) I can see a receptive audience to their messaging.

Pramila Jayapal made an important point this week in a recent interview. The vast majority of the jobs created by the bipartisan infrastructure bill are jobs for men. The reconciliation bill will create a variety of jobs for women as well. It is time for congress (I am looking at you Joe Manchin) to realize that “job creation” is not only needed for men with hardhats and shovels.

Joe Manchin, republican hero…

“and…” Manchin agrees with them because he’s a racist white prick who is jumping on the Great Replacement bandwagon.

Parents can tell their kids they love and are committed to each other. But if they’re bickering and fighting all the time the kids will hear such reassurances and think “Yeah, that’s a bunch of bullshit, just look at them.”

Who are supposed to be the parents and who the kids in your example?

Also…yeah…it’s already all Pelosi’s and the progressives’ fault…

Two quotes from Mark Twain:

“Some are in Congress because they are millionaires. The rest are millionaires because they are in Congress.”

“Imagine you are a perfect idiot, and further imaging you are a member of Congress. Oh, but I repeat myself!”

(Excluding some members of the Progressive Caucus.)
