The Committee Gets It: Trump’s Attack Took Months To Unfold

We’ve been wondering for months whether the Jan. 6 committee will understand the Jan. 6 insurrection as a one-day spasm of violence, or the culmination of months of lies, provocation and planning from Donald Trump and his close associates.

I hope the committee members will in future refer to Trump’s disinformation as disinformation, not misinformation. They are calling some lies lies.

I went outside to see if I could hear anything, and sure enough, there was a constant but slow series of popping sounds. Like melon-sized gourds emptying the contents from their hardened shells. It was beautiful.

I’m starting to wonder if Garland might issue an indictment of Trump after these hearings. I can dream, can’t I?

Jason Miller put nails in the mens rea coffin. Ivanka shoveled some dirt on it afterwards.

I wholeheartedly agree. Lies and deception. That’s what it is. Just like Russian propaganda.

Just based on tonight, it appears that Trump will be firmly tossed under the bus - which is good - and may allow Liz Cheney and the Lincoln Project boys and David Brooks and George Will and other Republicans like them to crawl from the wreckage and try to take over the filthy remnants of the R party. That’s not so good, but I will take it for now. It’s also good for the Democrats - at least short term. Don’t overtly blame the Rs for what they have created, just make it clear that Trump was the only result possible from their years of whoring for the oligarchs and pandering to the bigoted and stupid. And hammer all the congress critter fellow seditionists. I do hope their shame is coming as Cheney flirted with. (She does seem angry.) That’s probably too complex. In any event, I hope that Mitch Fucking McConnell does not sleep at all for the next six weeks. Or better, falls blissfully asleep repeatedly, only to awaken 20 minutes later - each time in a state of sweaty heart pounding terror - with an acid filled gut and all the consequences thereof. Good night Mitch.

Good start! Later first person testimony of Mr. Trump doing nothing as the violence unfolded will depict him as a sociopath and an indifferent POTUS: but we already knew that. I think the biggest potential damage for him is evidence that he had good reason to believe (or hope…) the protests would turn violent but did nothing to prevent them. I would need to hear from Tx Lawyer, but I think that would begin to veer into the area of possible criminal conspiracy…

I’m impressed with how well the committee displayed—and not misplayed—their hand tonight.

When I learned that THIS mocking of another individual did not instantly end Trump’s presidential campaign, I knew that the present 21st Century GOP was the result of 20-40 years of voluminous Right Wing propaganda at a 24/7/365 fever-pitch

Turnip had been playing this subversion for years, calling into question the legitimacy of the American democratic electoral system. He was telegraphing for months prior to his own unexpected election in 2016 that the system was rigged, corrupt, fake, etc. That is his whole M.O., his whole method of gaining power. It’s basically what he used in his mafia-style business dealings, and how he promoted his own television show and his steak and vodka and university.

I’m waiting to see what the morning’s headlines will be. My baseline expectation is confused bullshit, anything more enlightening will be welcome.
