The Brief: Graham Platner's Exit Would Set Up a Busy Few Weeks in Maine

Not exactly on any of those counts. The presidential nominee decides on the running mate. And McGovern totally screwed up, with no Plan B when Ted Kennedy declined to be McGovern’s running mate - as Kennedy had repeatedly told McGovern. And Eagleton bald-face lied to the McGovern campaign.

Maybe “backroom politics” would have worked. It did in 1944.

“I have spoken with Graham Platner about the best path forward for Maine,” Sanders said in a brief statement. “In light of these very serious allegations, I have recommended that he step aside.”

The Hill.

That’s pretty close to the end … unless The Hill retracts it like they did McConnell’s obit.

Rape <> someone’s sex life. He wears a Nazi tattoo. He lies. These are not traits to admire.

No, it’s not similar to what the dems did to Franken. And of course I remember him. I’m 75 years old. I was angry at the time about the way the Dem party did not rise to his defense. (I’ve never liked Kirsten Gillebrand.)

As for having “a POTUS who is convicted felon and accused by many women and girls of similar actions..people voted for him anyway”: Okay, fine. Let Dems join in on wittingly voting for rapists, serial adulterers, and crooks.

Glad to hear that your image of “a real man” isn’t the same as Pete Hegseth’s. I’m not sure why you think establishment Dems would be turned off by the “manly” image Platner projects. Their problems with him, once his campaign gained steam, stemmed from other things, including his being such an unknown. Previous political experience or other roles with public exposure provide, among other things, some assurance that anything problematic in a senatorial candidate’s background has been exposed and weathered, and that the candidate has a track record (and not just a set of professed policy positions and an appealing demeanor) on which voters can base their appraisal. Another Fetterman was not what most Dems in the Senate wanted.

I know you weren’t suggesting this, but there’s something I want to get off my chest. I’m weary of the stereotype of the working class man as a burly, broad-shouldered, deep-voiced “he-man.” Just isn’t true of the many working class men I have known – carpenters, painters, masons, plumbers, electricians, the list goes on – including my brother, a carpenter (among other things) who’s lived in Maine for more than 60 years, many of them in deeply rural Maine.

This makes me so mad. Things are so awful now, I can’t even enjoy McConnell’s death. That’s twice I’ve been robbed of meaningful celebration by this rotten government.

Great! Then Mitch can speak to the governor’s office who can confirm he’s alive and well, right? /s

ETTD. The U.S. team seemed demoralized and just out of sorts from the outset. What a terrible position Trump put Balogun and the whole team in. And as my daughter (who played soccer through college and still plays in a “league” full of women in their 30’s and 40’s – she gives her pets names like Zizou and Luka) pointed out to me, the team had spent two days preparing for a different game, one without Balogun.

That’s good. The Turtle Watch continues. We just can’t get no satisfaction.

I’m slightly concerned that England will get nuked during the world cup final (if they get there) if there are any actual English fans there. “He’s fat he’s round he bounces on the ground Donald Trump!” And the pedophile chant will send TSF over the edge. Assuming he’s awake long enough to notice.

They’ll keep him technically not dead until then. As it’s a way to subvert the democratic process, McTurtle would be fully on board. It’s too close to the election to die.

“a real man” “with a moustache” “a MARINE”

Stunning. But it’s beneficial to see the misogyny of so-called liberals exposed on these threads.

Defamatory guesses. Opinions are nowhere near as good as facts. Jenny Racicot is a registered Democrat.
