The Army Major Who Stopped The Colorado Springs Gunman

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

A remarkable account of the heroics of Richard M. Fierro, a retired Army major who was watching a drag show at a Colorado Springs gay club with his wife and daughter and her boyfriend, when he heard the sound of small arms fire.

I saw on TV earlier Fierro said the drag queen stomped on the guy’s head with her heels, I hope she was wearing stilettos.

Smith remains in Europe recovering from injuries sustained in a bike accident.

No hurry Jack, you get better. We have all the time in the world. Nothing pressing here, nothing that can’t wait while you heal, convalesce, arrange travel back to the States and get up to speed. Might have been someone else qualified to hit the ground running, but here in America we understand recreation, and its pitfalls. See you soon. We hope.

Some of my earliest awareness of lbs/sq inch were using the example of heels. Teacher had us go look at the school door’s thresholds…those metal speed bumps on institutional buildings. There were little craters/pock marks. Teacher said “high heels”.

If a 200lb man has a broad heel (roughly 2x2) then the pressure on the threshold would be under 100lb/sq inch or even down to 50. But a 100lb woman with a 1/4 heel could produce 400lb/sq inch, enough to dimple a metal threshold without even trying. I didn’t road test these results, not sure what made the dimples…but I always think of that when I see spike heels.

There’s a tiny crescent moon just hanging avove the eastern horizon this morning.

When a crowd mobs an active shooter it seems quite appropriate for them to fucking kill him.

Yes saw the sliver of moon this morning over a pink dawn driving into MadTown. My new job has me driving 1 hr to arrive at 7am until my probation is over and I can work from home 3 days a week. I haven’t been posting much since I started…got no free time during the day and too tuckered at night.

When I was a wee lad my mother hosted a tupperware party and the woman running the show probably weighed 400 lbs… long story short we ended up with hundreds of those divots in the tile of the kitchen floor, dad was not happy.

Probably not. Have you ever tried dancing with stilettos on? I’ve been told (by a friend) it’s not easy.

Flats guy here, and I never could dance.

LOL headline of the day: GOP centrists prepare to ‘flex our muscles’

I don’t know how that’s going to go, since they’ve allowed those muscles to atrophy over the last decade or so, but carry on.

Here’s a sample: Trump-lite Mike Pompeo declares teachers union head Randi Weingarten the most dangerous person in the world.

Projection again, Mike???

the seditious conspiracy case against Stewart Rhodes and his fellow Oath Keepers is now with the jury.

…“we have no better example than this case.”

I’m not so sure this statement from the judge will be valid until the jury decides. All that Stewart Rhodes needs is just one person on the jury who decided he was not guilty when chosen for the panel. The guy can walk on that. As they said in the article - stay tuned.

Alex Jones has been moving money around – LOTS of money – since the Sandy Hook families began closing in on damage awards against him of more than $1 billion, according to this well-reported Washington Post piece.

Under the circumstances and in the face of the clear evidence, can’t someone just freeze his assets, already? I mean, seriously - did they honestly think Alex wouldn’t do this?

MTG will have to dial up “Death Threats R-Us” and give them something to think about.

Game Changers. One thing puzzles me about the Dem leadership. We all know what the GOP has become. I don’t see it returning to ‘normal’ for decades. Despite that, Dems don’t seem to be seriously entertaining any of the following steps that might change the equation: 1. Expanding the SC. 2. Adding Puerto Rico and D.C. as new states. 3. Either eliminating the debt limit or raising it so high that it no longer matters. Is the Dem leadership convinced that someday the GOP will ‘play fair’ again?

They’ll attend to that right after they indict Matt Gaetz and Donald Trump.

I don’t think we know the specific agenda yet. Let’s let them get in their seats first, before those assumptions are made.

Work can certainly crab your life. Some years ago, I created a job by retiring.

I was walking out to let the mare into the pasture to graze on frosted grasses.

Fair enough. However, I haven’t seen any movement or heard any statements regarding these issues.

The word hero gets bandied about a lot, but Mr Fierro truly is. I feel so sorry for his family, losing their daughters bf in this whole mess. It just makes me sad the hate that the Christofascists have for everybody, apparently they want to project their own miserable twisted lives on to everyone else. Just let people be themselves and be happy, JFC.

Also I’m pretty well read but I had absolutely no idea who Pompious was on about.
