The 6 Interlocking Schemes Fani Willis Is Trying To Make Stick To Teflon Don - TPM – Talking Points Memo

Excellent Summary - Thank you!

I choose to be hopeful today, simply because the spectacle of all of this is going to put people in the position of having to actively defend the indefensible and, for the defendants, under oath.

Oh, and celebratory cats! :cat2:‍:black_large_square:

Who is surprised at the outcome of the Georgia grand jury investigation? Trump’s criminal activities have always been willfully backed and carried out by enthusiastic supporters. Trump is driven by his ego and GOP politicians have done everything they could to feed it. Trump adopted the GOP “the end justifies the means” credo to get elected and all of his actions in this case are driven by his desire to maintain possession of the presidential “stay out of jail” card for himself and presidential pardon pen for his accomplishes. . I have always considered his saga as the American version of Hitler’s rise in Nazi Germany with the same fatal flaws.

“That involved a byzantine scheme in which Trevian Kutti, a PR person for Ye — then known as Kanye West — allegedly tried to entrap Freeman into lying that she had participated in an election theft scheme.”

Had to recheck to see who wrote this. Glad to see it was really Josh K. And not @theghostofeustacetilley.

You know when you’ve brought Kanye’s PR person in on the crimes, you’ve got the best people…

The LA Times has a really well-reported story up on the frantic attempt to try to show that the election had been stolen. The problem was that these clowns proceeded like a ninth-grader trying to write a research paper. They came up with a conclusion, namely that the election had been stolen, and then tried to find evidence, any evidence, that they could use to cast doubt on the results. It was a complete shitshow (as we all saw at the time with case after case getting tossed in court) but the extent to which these people dedicated themselves to history’s biggest snipe hunt is really something to behold.

How does @JoshKovensky have enough time to put out all of these well-researched, informative, readable long form articles? The guy is a writing machine.

It was part of a broader, feverish, and unhinged sense that data machinations at Dominion Voting Systems had somehow caused Biden’s loss.

Great article. But you mean Trump’s loss, right? Maybe fix that.

I KNOW, right? It’s simply mind-boggling that the plan didn’t work, and that it eventually unraveled to the point that criminal indictments ensued. Just shocking.

He does exist. I and many other people met him at at least 1 TPM event, mine in October 2019 I think. I shook his hand.

It’s too bad that it takes Fani Willis to charge all these criminals for attempting a coup, instead of Jack Smith charging Trump with insurrection under federal law. That is clearly what happened and presenting it any other way just gives Trump the chance to spin it.

There’s no law in GA for a president and his loyal minions attempting a coup. But it IS a criminal enterprise with Trump at the center of it and they will all be convicted unless they dance around it with BS excuses.

But this indictment should open the door to hundreds and hundreds of civil lawsuits in every state to get a court finding that Trump is ineligible to hold office under Section 3 of the 14h Amendment because a coup attempt is clearly insurrection. It may have to happen state by state and will probably only succeed in states with non-R supreme courts. But that would keep Trump off the ballot in states like PA, MI and WI, where Ds control and have every reasonable basis to make that finding of fact and enforce the Constitution, at least in their state. SCOTUS may overrule, and R-controlled states will receive lawsuits with BS basis to exclude Biden, but that’s the civil war we can win.

Ironic that Trump, who refused to use email or texts so as to leave no evidence behind, didn’t understand that the satisfaction he got from ranting on Twitter put him at risk of the tweets being used against him in court.

And phone calls - whoever heard of someone recording phone calls? Or a lawyer making notes?

As has been reported elsewhere, but is worth repeating, the beauty of the Georgia cases is that if he is convicted, neither Trump nor any other federal level GOP official can pardon him of state crimes.

Also of note, because of the situation’s urgency for him, this may have been one of the few times that Trump didn’t use his standard doges of insulating himself by using vague language to communicate his desires to officials or by using a cutout to do his dirty work for him.

I thought Josh K was in Martha’a Vineyard. You can get a lot of writing done when overlooking the surf.

One notable absence from Willis’ indictment was the GA Lt Gov, who was intimately involved in the fake elector/legislator vote schemes. Willis was recused by a judge since she had a fundraiser for the Lt Gov opposition.

Now a special counsel appointed. Jones must have thought he skated.

Lt. Gov. Burt Jones was one of 16 Republican electors who falsely claimed that Trump won Georgia. As a state senator, he also sought a special session of Georgia’s Legislature aimed at overturning President Joe Biden’s narrow win in the state. But Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was barred by a judge from indicting Jones. Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney agreed with Jones that Willis, an elected Democrat, had a conflict of interest because she hosted a fundraiser for the Democrat who lost to Jones in the 2022 election for lieutenant governor.
