I think that was Durbin and he was referring to how long it would take to add. That is BS, my guess is when he said that they were trying to get the GOP to allow them to vote on the Debt Ceiling Bill. That time is past, the situation is now different.

Is it too soon for me to offer she deserves to be booted from the Democratic caucus when this is all over? Not that she will be. Not that itās wise politically. But simply that she deserves to be? I got pretty banged up for suggesting that in a moment of frustration a couple weeks back.
But crap like this brings the spidey-sense in my blood boiling back. Who the hell acts like this with their own party, or the rival one for that matter? āI wonāt tell you what Iām thinking until you give me what I wantā is now a negotiating position?

I hope that Joshās hunch is right and this will somehow all work out, but I am becoming increasingly pessimistic. I am beginning to think that Pres. Bidenās last card would be to āgo nuclearā on the 2 recalcitrant senators. Call them into his office and say,
āLook. You guys either get on board or you are through. I will make sure you are stripped of all your assignments and seniority and essentially run out of the party. I donāt care if you become independents or even caucus with the GOP. You can even hand control of the Senate to Mitch McConnell. We will then use you as a rallying cry in the midterms.ā
As nutty as that sounds, if the filibuster holds and the infrastructure and/or voting rights bills donāt pass, how much difference will it really make whether Dem chairpersons hold the gavels in the Senate?

Biden is a long-time Senator as we all know. I donāt know that thereās ever been a situation like this where the head of the majority party has to mollycoddle and threaten members of his own party to the levels that tweedledum and tweedledummer appear to need. Biden has an incredible amount of respect for the Senate. I just donāt know whether he will want to be the one that upends it over these two nincompoops.

Definitely the weirdest thing in the morning memo. Was this guy on a government salary with that as a full-time job? Was he a DJ running the WH sound system, or a minstrel with a guitar following Trump around and singing maudlin songs like Memory? So weird, and yet believable.

āCould be a technical violation, Your Highness?ā Itās well beyond could be, unless all these assets were in blind trusts or mutual funds (or another asset class where you cannot control the investments).
All of these bastards ought to be impeached.
ETA: R Brooke Jackson is an Obama appointee. Color me disappointed, but he may be a good place to start the impeachment process just to show that itās not a partisan witch hunt.

I do still think it probably all works out somehow, mostly because the alternative is utter catastrophe.
That said, the internal democratic debate is starting to look eerily like the larger red-blue debate in microcosm. Basically, the right flank is used to being in control, but is now finding themselves supplanted by an increasingly assertive liberal wing.
The response to this loss of control, for both Republicans and conservative Dems, is not to content themselves with cutting a bargain with the new majority, but to let loose a howl of rage and threaten to destroy everything if their imagined āprivilegeā is not catered to.
