Because we don’t have President Warren.
“This kool-aid tastes funny.”
The GOP, the business press and the ‘online right’ are making a real push to just 'normalize the deaths’. As rascal_crone mentioned, they’ve successfully done this with school shootings so I’d say they actually have a decent shot of pulling it off with the pandemic. Especially with the fact that it’s practically impossible to find any ‘counter arguments’ to the ‘cure is worse than the disease’ or even any democrats in the media right now unless they get protested by right wing loons, or have a sex assault allegation.
From the Wiki-book: On July 14, 1984, at age 26, Abbott was paralyzed below waist-level when an oak tree fell on him while he was jogging following a storm.[8][9] He had two steel rods implanted in his spine, underwent extensive rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, and has used a wheelchair ever since.[10][11] He sued the homeowner and a tree service company, resulting in an insurance settlement that provides him with lump sum payments every three years until 2022 along with monthly payments for life; both are adjusted “to keep up with the rising cost of living”.[12] As of August 2013, the monthly payment amount was US$14,000.[12] Prior to becoming governor, Abbott subsequently backed legislation in Texas that limits “punitive damages stemming from noneconomic losses” and “noneconomic damages in medical malpractice cases”, at $750,000 and $250,000, respectively.[13]While the settlement in Abbott’s case was a “nonmedical liability lawsuit”, which remains uncapped, Abbott has faced criticism for “tilt[ing] the judicial scales toward civil defendants.”[13]
As Paul Krugman says, every major Republican policy decision is not merely hideously wrong, these decisions are consistently made in bad faith, knowing that they are false.
This may go down in history as the American equivalent of the Nero Decree, the deliberate sacrifice of one’s own population:
Literally anyone can die of this, and premature relaxing without a massive testing and tracking program means substantially higher death rates. And that’s OK with the GOP, because right now those living, breathing people are in the way of economic regrowth. It’s a mass murder for profit. Do me a favor and explain how that’s in any way overstated. I’d love to be wrong.
Absolutely, yet they are treated as acting in good faith by every news outlet outside of lefty blogs!
Texas has always been governed by fools. When they leave governorships for the federal government, they all engage in corrupt, anti-democratic activities.

Visit any of your local hospitals for an in-person demonstration. Breathe deeply and definitely don’t wear a mask when you do.
Got that, yes. When I said “You can go get it,” I was referring to pizza but also to “karma” …
Anyhow, did you make that Burma-Shave thing?
The GOP has lost any interest in fighting this virus. It both scares them and bores them. Homework r hard. They’re throwing in the towel. There won’t even be any emphasis on testing and tracking, just feigned interest, faux measures. All the epidemiologists predicting 3/4 of the populace would end up infected before a vaccine is found are probably correct, because any measure on the part of State or Federal health agencies to mitigate and limit spread are pretty much shot in the ass. You’re either going to be one of the lucky majority that survives it, or one of the people it buries. But you’re on your own so far as avoiding it. If isolating at home means you’re fired from your job, sucks to be you.
It’s this part that’s incorrect. There aren’t going to be profits for the businesses which are re-opening.
Nobody is making money with 75% of their capacity gone, and the remaining 25% relying on people to actually show up.
The only thing that we’re going to see for second quarter figures is more extreme contraction of the economy.
They’re doing mass murder for nothing.
Hey Guv Abbott,
File your comments under, “No Shit, Sherlock.”
On one of my god-forsaken drives across this state - I remember seeing an old set. I had half a mind to get out and yank 'em down to keep. But figured that would be bad karma.
You can’t disprove that by asking me.
The economics is smash and grab. And coincident with that is McConnell trying to pack the courts. They know they’re doomed in November.
There’s a flaw in your thinking.
You’re assuming that they believe in their stated premise. “To Get America Going”.
Somebody IS making money. These particular shills - are getting paid off by their donors - who ARE making money during the pandemic.
But as usual - it’s not mom n pop…
Mens rea, my dude. They think they’ll get their portfolios turgid again. That’s what counts.
That will do it. Bet he’s a gem on environmental issues too.
