Tennessee GOPers Expel First Of Three Dems Who Joined Gun Protests

Tennessee Democratic Rep. Justin Jones of Nashville was expelled from the state House by Republicans on Thursday in a 72-25 vote — all the result of a Republican leadership effort to equate a peaceful gun protest in the state House to the Jan. 6 insurrection.

So glad I live in smelly NY as the clown MTG says. These red state legislatures are off the wall but I’m sure the state is heavily gerrymandered.

I really didn’t think the TN GOP would actually martyr these three. Dumb move

The Tennessee House just proved they don’t care a bit about life. Guns are more important than the lives of children in that state. It is sick.

How much you want to be each of the three is re-elected in special elections in a couple of months?

This is going to go very, very well for the GOP. There’s getting out over your skis, and then there’s this.

Nope, they are national heros of more than just the left. They stood up for what they believed . Had a peaceful protest and for that, they are expelled from the House. First Amendment issues here and I hope the three of them press on with a civil rights suit.

They’re going to be replaced by appointed delegates. Next election is 2024. No special elections for Dems!

County and city-level officials will select delegates to serve in the vacant House seats until the next regularly scheduled election in August 2024, said Carrie Russell, a political science senior lecturer at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University. The expelled lawmakers will be able to run for reelection at that time, she said.

It’s a good thing no Republican has ever taken part in a protest.

We do not have the ability to understand that those six were not murdered but sacrificed themselves for the good of gun rights.
To GOPers in Tennessee and else where these deaths happened are not to be grieved but forgotten so they can get on with the business of making sure every whacko in our Country are armed. :fu:

Is there legal recourse for these three? I can’t believe this is acceptable under the rule of law.

Absolutely shameful

I wonder if the expelled members are eligible as Delegates? That could be fun…

Can they run again in a special election and be admitted back?

Good question! I wondered that too
