Takeaways From This Campaign’s Biggest Democratic Debate

October’s debate stage saw the biggest crowd of presidential hopefuls yet, 12 candidates shoulder-to-shoulder to address impeachment for the first time since House Democrats formally announced their inquiry against President Trump.

Great to read some summary and analysis here because nobody will pay me to watch these spectacles.

It was repulsive to see Tulsi Gabbard excuse Trump for his greenlighting the massacre of the Kurds in Syria.

These debates are just awful. The only thing I can be grateful for is that there are decent people with enough ambition to put themselves through these pointless and painful exercises to be able to do some good. Maybe? Grateful isn’t what I’m after. Resigned? Any suggestions?

Not watching it but we already have takeaways while it is still going on?

Sure, take it away. Far away. I just hope the questions weren’t as stupid as they usually are.

Ultimately. This.

I’d even take Tulsi over Trump (thank God it won’t be Tulsi).

Tonight: Warren / Booker.

Tulsi is just a repackaging of an aspiring, Russia enabling Chief Executive in a more intelligent and attractive form.

Thank God it won’t be her. I’m curious where she’s getting her funding, however.

Cull the herd, DNC. This is unwatchable and pointless.

You can start with Gabbard. You can have Jimmy Carter as the Sandman come out and sweep her off the stage with a broom.

I thought that the concerted, coordinated attack on Trump was Fabulous

Fewer candidates next time:

Here’s a real brain buster: Would you have preferred Tulsi on the stage or Marianne Williamson?

In the end, I think we can all agree that we need to narrow the field, even if it hurts.

Two new rules: No one named Gabbard and no one who has lived in Vermont since before it was a state.

Are you sure? It looks like candidates only need to hit 3% in 4 polls. That doesn’t sound like it would be difficult enough to significantly winnow the field.

Numbers on the CBS site for the same story had it at eight qualifiers.

Gabbard and Klobuchar are out.

Candidates will have until November 13 at 11:59 pm to meet both polling and donor requirements. But according to an analysis by CBS News, only the eight following candidates have met both thresholds to participate in the November debate so far:

  • Joe Biden

  • Cory Booker

  • Pete Buttigieg

  • Kamala Harris

  • Bernie Sanders

  • Tom Steyer

  • Elizabeth Warren

  • Andrew Yang

Well 8 is definitely better than 12. I’m shocked Tom Steyer is polling at 3% or higher.

The greatest issue for the USA and the rest of the world is Climate Change. It was briefly mentioned at the very end. Just mentioned, not discussed. In the meantime, there are forest fires, floods, storms, excessive heat waves. These events will eat up a big section of the US budget and yet they are all unprepared to even discuss it.

Unprepared or unable due to lack of time. This was a two hour marathon with far too many voices to be heard. As of now, we are down to eight next time and that is still far too many - needed to be six or less.

Yeah, I know Harris wasn’t happy about it. Sure, there are too many voices on stage, but the people asking questions need to start going for more important things
