Sure Looks Like Sacha Baron Cohen Got A Right-Wing Rally To Do A Racist Sing-Along | Talking Points Memo

Sacha Baron Cohen appears to have duped a right-wing group this weekend, leading to a racist sing-along that got some in the crowd chanting lines such as “sushi eaters, what’re we gonna do? Inject them with the Wuhan flu.”

Like COVID, the song is, well, catchy.

I might well have sang along ironically too, to be honest. Sorry.

And I’m guessing this “event” was organized on facebook, which didn’t make any attempt to shut it down based on hate speech or glorifying violence. Facebook’s garbage libertarian viewpoint on “speech” is a big part of the problem here, normalizing these points of view to the point that you can get a lot of people singing this out in public and perhaps not even ashamed about it once exposed.

“Journalists, what’re we gonna do? Chop ’em up like the Saudis do!” he sang. “Chop ’em up like the Saudis do,” the crowd, eventually, responded.

It’s just Sheeples singing…

Violent Sheeples…

FYI Trump Sheeples…

Don’t you have anything better to do, Sacha? It’s amusing, in a way, but it’s the equivalent of “duping” a dog into drooling by waving around a pork chop.

Republicans have no sense of humor. Look at what Trump calls jokes.

I keep hearing about smart, otherwise nice and decent Trump supporters, yet I’ve literally never met one. They’re all stupid, vile or both, and I suspect that anyone claiming otherwise is just covering for relatives and friends they don’t have the courage to admit are vile racist morons.

You can’t treat your racist moron asshole friends and relatives like you treat your decent intelligent nice friends and relatives AND be a real progressive. You just can’t. I’m not saying that you have to be mean to them or call them all out, or even cut them off entirely. That’s not wise or possible. But damn, at least don’t be so nice to them and keep covering them like a damn co-dependent enabler. Let them know how you feel, keep some emotional distance, and they’ll get the hint.

I understand what you mean. I’m sure their guard was down, so to speak. They didn’t expect someone to make them look like what they really are. I’ve always despised call and response type activities at protests, and events. (Although I have been known to respond “Sooner” to someone’s “Boomer”. But at least I know what they’re likely to ask me to say.)
It’s as if they support things blindly, without checking what is being said. Next thing you know you’ll tell me that POTUS likes videos without actually hearing what people are saying.

So Chaplin wasted his time, too?

Yeah - as members of polite society it’s our job to enforce the polite part of that. We have to make it clear that some things are not going to be tolerated if you want to be considered a member of society and not a pariah.

Ostracism can go a long way with many people.

It will with many. Not all, I’m sure - some don’t care. But eventually even some of them will get tired of being on the outside of everything and behind the rest of us.

I generally look at appeasement of the MAGAts as being akin to if we had, after conquering Germany, decided that there were good Nazis, and we should listen to and incorporate their views into the reconstituted country.

They may all be dumb, but plenty are well-off. CNBC is sounding the alarm about a Biden victory for those folks.

Yeah. Maybe. But these are dogs who go around claiming that no way, no how would they touch a pork chop.
