In a just world (I know I just set myself up for disappointment), this is the kind of crap that would end a political party, not just nationally but even in Deep South Alabama.
Twisting in pretzels to deny reasonable accommodations for at-risk voters during a pandemic? That’s how low they’ve sunk?
This isn’t just about the judges they place. It’s that a party fights this small accommodation. In a sound world, the state legislature would have endorsed the practice with legislation, not called on the courts to crush it.
Same bullshit line the Ohio SOS used for drop boxes. Ludicrous and all the courts, so far, have told the SOS that but hadn’t forced him to allow it either.
The die is cast. Making vote suppression the law of the land is just one Rubicon crossing. Whether it’s unlimited dark money in politics, grotesque gerrymandering, hobbled congressional oversight, we’ll have a judicial branch willing to do anything to maintain minority rule unless dems take this fight seriously and expand the court, protect and expand voting rights, curb the power of wealth. Now is not the time for rose colored glasses or bi-partisan foolishness.
Breaking News: Under pressure to take a stand on court packing, Joe Biden said he would create a commission to study changes to the court system broadly.
These jerks aren’t even hiding it anymore. It looks like Johnny Roberts is getting mighty comfy climbing into bed with MoscowMitch and BillyLowBarr. They’re gonna need a bigger bed.
5/3…soon enough rulings like this will be 6/3. I suppose the best way to “ensure voting integrity” is to keep folks from voting at all. This ruling takes us closer to that utopia.
No, the Supreme Court REQUIRES BAN ON CURBSIDE VOTING IN ALABAMA. Both lower courts allowed it under the ADA. The Illegitimate Roberts Court That Needs to Get Packed or Bribed Out of Existence stepped in to prohibit curbside voting for people with disabilities without even bothering to give a reason for the decision.
If it’s a majority of old voters in Alabama that want to vote this way that will probably actually reduce the R votes. Might be shooting themselves in the foot.
But the courts are a necessary complement. The [insert adjective of choice] legislatures want to enact neo-Jim Crow laws and policies to constrain voting rights and need judges and justices who will sanction it.
