Story Of GA Rep. Being Yelled At In Publix Is Getting Weirder

Erica Thomas, a black Democratic state representative from Georgia, posted a tearful video on Facebook this weekend, telling her followers between sobs that she’d been yelled at to “go back where you came from” after angering a man by bringing too many items into the express lane at a Publix grocery store.

His argument is that he’s a real asshole, but not a racist?

"…bringing too many items into the express lane at a Publix grocery store."

Regardless whatever else happened, summary execution for this sort of ill-mannered behavior is warranted.

And caning for getting out a checkbook.

I’m not sure I get the part where he outs himself on television as the guy and then claims she defamed him.

(Checks notes)

Oh, 2019 in America. Got it.

How long until the presidential tweet saying she told him to go back to his country?

“I ABSOLUTELY did not call her a ‘lazy son of a (expletive) who should go back where she came from’!”

“I simply called her a ‘selfish little (expletive) who doesn’t belong here with us decent White folks’!”

“See? TOTALLY different!”

(Entire GOP nods heads approvingly)

Ahem. Stealing my line…

“Selfish little bitch” sounds about right for that behavior, so if he really didn’t go beyond that, nothingberder.

TPM – Where else will you find second-hand reporting on the minutia of state politics?

Well, I sure as hell hope the security tape backs her account, but this report doesn’t sound promising. Ffs! We are fighting a political and cultural war in this country. This kind of thing (if it turns out she gave us a Trumpian-enhanced version of events) is not helpful at all.

If Thomas started out in a normal checkout line and moved to the express lane when she saw it was faster, saying “go back where you came from” would take on a whole different meaning.

Maybe he said to “go back to where she came from” meaning go back to the non-express checkout line.

Sure. Use the b-word instead of the n-word, and think that’s okay. It isn’t

Sexism is just as bad as racism.

There has been reporting on his background too. He was raised in a family of Cuban immigrants and his twitter feed is very liberal anti-Trump.

Add to that she pulled out a couple of goddamned coupons.

I was kinda cringing hopping this wasn’t the case but when TPM ran the original article it had already come out on social media the guy is liberal and really anti-trump. This had a ‘smollett’ quality to it from the beginning and I really wished the media (especially the few left leaning ones) would have waited a few days before jumping on this story.

Yeah, pretty much. Which I guess is… better?
