Whatever Rhodes gets - closer to 25 years than to time served - should brighten the day of a certain former reality TV show host and current/future criminal defendant.
But it’s a lot closer to 25 than 0. Federal inmates can only get a maximum of 54 days cut per year of sentence for good behavior. If Elmer gets 25 years, he’ll still serve at least 20+.
Rhodes can become an American iconic warrior leading his Oath Keepers from prison, not unlike Nelson Mandela. And even should he pass before the Oath Keepers conquer the deep state and establish the white patriarchy he envisions, his followers inside the hilltop lodge will tell stories about his bravery, forbearance, and leadership.
To make the case, the defense downplayed Rhodes’ involvement and, like many other January 6 defendants, suggested that Trump was the true manipulator of events and people.
“January 6 wasn’t a thing until Trump made his infamous tweet,” attorneys said per reports from the courthouse, referring to Trump’s Dec. 19, 2020 tweet calling supporters to protest at the Capitol.
I guess it’s better than saying he was just following orders…
