State GOPers Aren’t Done Punishing Republicans Who Bucked Trump | Talking Points Memo

Months after former President Trump was acquitted of “incitement of insurrection,” the Ohio Republican Party is reportedly set to vote on a resolution this week to censure GOP lawmakers who voted to impeach Trump, which includes Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), according to Fox News.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1372723

The resolution urges Republicans to “unify as a party” and uphold the Constitution and “rule of law” before voting to censure House Republicans who voted “to support the unconstitutional, politically motivated impeachment proceeding” against Trump, according to Fox News.

At the risk of having a stranglehold on the obvious, whatever the GOP used to be, it is now simply an insensate mob.

Anytime one of the 1/6 congressional seditionists show up on television there ought to be a pop up chyron like the VH1 show Pop up video stating that they either incited an insurrection, didn’t vote to certify a secure, free and fair election and continue to push the big lie.

The Republican base is radical, anti-American, and seditious. Catch my drift?

Trump has become a purity test for the Republican party, which seems insane since he lost the presidency. Are Republicans really convinced that they can get people to vote for Trump policies, especially after the people see how things are improving under Biden? Sure, it may lock their base to them, but the base isn’t enough to hold power across the nation, especially as we move forward in time. It’s just nuts watching them shred anyone who won’t declare fealty to Trump.

They are also becoming even more unhinged as time goes on, and really risk throwing away their advantage in the 2022 election. At least I hope so…in some parts of the nation this is going to go well, but I don’t see the majority of Americans falling down the QAnon rabbit hole or believing that Trump really won in 2020 or that the insurrection wasn’t a big deal (especially once the trials really get going in the next year).

The divorce from reality by the Republican party is going to threaten the nation at this rate…if they remain disconnected from facts I’m not sure they will be willing to continue as part of the US without ruling it in a dictatorship, and that just won’t work out well for them.

Shh. Are you trying to stir up yet more Rethugliklan über-lunacy? LOL

BTW As I’ve said before — and many here would agree — you should be earning a high six-figure income for writing lines like that.

So the congressional district will have to go 8 months without representation solely because of whims of the governor. A lawsuit ought to be in order.

…For many, Trumpism is a high…it feeds the Trump grift for Trump…and the GOP has boxed itself in.

Those are three runaway trains going in the same direction.

Just checking my reading comprehension here.

The Ohio state GOP is going to censure a bunch of congresspeople who do not represent Ohio?

Censure is always pretty meaningless, but censuring people that aren’t even part of your organization is just straight-up lunacy
