Schiff is unlikely to let Sondland’s refusal slide. He’s made of sterner stuff than Nadler. Expect contempt findings shortly, which I hope is accompanied by it being inherent. Sondland and his co-conspirator Pompeo need to spend quality time in the slammer.
Shame on you for being honest, er, I meant disloyal…
We’ll know by the end of the week, if not sooner.
So, two out of how many? Why not Don McGahn or Rob Porter? Annie Donaldson balked and ended up agreeing to limit her compliance to written answers only, no testimony. Any way you slice it House Dems are the water boy on the end of the bench, not the linebacker wreaking havoc on the field.
What exactly ARE Dems’ options now? Can this be taken up in court and if so can it be fast-tracked?
Now that it’s an impeachment inquiry, expect Schiff not to mess around.
To be fair, if they had any sense they wouldn’t have worked for the Trump administration in the first place.
Schiff and quite a few other Dems are Jewish, and tomorrow is the Day of Atonement. Delay, yes, but also no forgiveness, I hope. Some crimes cannot be forgiven.
Boy, those are some really good questions.
Make Abhorrent Governmental Accountability
Lol - the next time somebody bitches about Trump “facing his accuser” the interviewer needs to ask, “what about the right to call witnesses.”
Hopefully they push this up to the SCOTUS quickly. I want to see supposedly constitution loving Republican judges argue that the POTUS has the right to keep Congress from issuing subpoenas to employees of the executive branch.
Yes, they have been entirely wrong. There are a lot of bullshit presumptions out there about the power of the House to execute their demands.
As we’re seeing, a lawless administration has a lot of ability to just obstruct, and the only thing that the House can do is vote on impeachment. They can’t physically compel these people to testify, and can’t prosecute them without the assistance of the DOJ.
But it’s so much easier to blame Pelosi and say that it’s all her fault that we’ve got a lawless administration.
Sondland is in over his head.
Barr was an important target – one has to acknowledge that.
But I agree that one should also plan for what (never mind asking what) happens next.
I’ve said it before, I love the smell of Trumpsperation in the morning.
We knew this was going to happen. Trump’s got no other choice.
I guess the President’s assertion that this matter is transparent and his conversation with the Ukrainian President was perfect has just been blown up.
Democrats can find Sondland (and other Trump cult criminals like Pompeo and Barr) in inherent contempt. These scofflaws can be arrested by the police and imprisoned and fined. The House needs to do this to prevent the Trump regime from stalling. Courts can and usually rule quickly in such circumstances.
Schiff has nothing to lose.
If you’re being sarcastic, I honestly don’t know, this whole thing has been so complex and confusing and I can’t keep up. I recall reading somewhere that Dems can’t look to the courts for some things.
When Pelosi announced the House had entered a new stage by labeling their efforts an “impeachment inquiry” everyone knew it was some bullshit ruffling of peacock feathers imparting scant enhanced heft to any House demands. Hold the fricking vote, impeach him, and put the full weight of the statutes and precedent behind your demands for testimony and documents.
I was in Boot Camp and I know what the sergeants do:
They wear you out and call you everything BUT. And most people respond and “do it” over the Drill’s admonitions
I did.
The Gloom Gang berating Pelosi right now is expected. But she is not a grunt with a crew cut and she “responds” based on info we do not have and responsibilities we certainly don’t.
