It actually is a bad thing that Republican politicians are the one getting death threats for not going along with Jordan…no one should get those, period. It is, however, about damn time that they experienced that, so they understand the monster they have been feeding. They are of course the latest in a long line of Republicans getting that treatment whenever they step out of line, and very few have stood up against it instead of cowering back into line or running away and allowing an extremist to take their seat.
The question really is if Republicans will continue to run away and hide, or finally stand up against the worse elements that have come to dominate their party in the past 15 years. Ever since Obama they have stood by while the worst Americans have grown more and more willing to do awful things in public, while they just tried to use them to hold onto power. It’s surprising more people haven’t been killed over this stuff, but it feels like things are accelerating and the day there’s political assassinations is coming closer.

Agree with your conditions, but why not vote and just make McHenry speaker? He’s as ass, yes. But he’s an ass in in the seat already. He is a petulant vedictive man-child, but they all are. I don’t know that they have a good candidate in the whole of the country.
Why are people wanting to muddy the water with an acting pro tem speaker and set a really terrible precident that could likely be abused in the future.

One day I was at a neighborhood bar with friends watching the telly and a short talk by RFK about his big primary win and on to the next and lets win there. He turns and headed thru avhotel kitchen corridon only to be shot in the head by Sirhan Sirhan. The tv was still on and a guy reporting when the sound of the shots rang out. Political assassination is already here. Other instances come to mind (too many really).

Someone needs to let these yahoos know that making McHenry interim speaker amounts to begging for a phone call from Jordan at least every other day until Jan 3 to browbeat them.

Why the GOP just don’t vote McHenry in as Speaker and be done with it, I really don’t know. Other than McHenry has expressed that he doesn’t want to be Speaker.

Sure, but I can’t think of a more pointless exercise. If they have the votes to give McHenry all the power, they have the votes to make him speaker. Quit kicking the can down the road.

Republicans are going to be Republicans but that should not mean they are going to be insane or traitors.
No insurrectionists, aid to the Ukraine and keeping the Government open in line with the budget deal McCarthy made with Biden I agree must be requirements of any deal for Democrats to help Republicans out of their mess. Otherwise, what is the point of being a Democrat and patriot.
Ending the stupid impeachment, that actually would be better politics for Republicans than Democrats because for Republicans its an embarrassment, should for sane Republicans be an easy sell. It would also work to put their crazies back in line which the GOP really needs.
But domestic items like Climate change legislation that are needed to save the planet, while important, for Republicans given their financial base and everything else, is an ask to far FOR NOW.
That is what a bipartisan agreement on a Speaker will do, aside from the must be done items like aid to Ukraine and a budget, would marginalize the crazy Putin caucus within the Republican Party. It cannot be understated how important of a step that is to bringing our politics back to a place of sanity.
Marginalizing the MTG’s and Boebert’s and Matt Gaetz’s and Jim Jordan’s of the this congress would allow for normal compromise and legislation in the future and that includes saving the planet through Climate Change regulation.

It appeared to me it was intercepted mid flight and partly blown up by Israel’s “iron dome”. Remnants fell. People died.
