It’s way past time that the distorted term “moderate” be dropped completely when referring to Democrats. It implies that there is someone to the right of these particular Democrats, which is barely the case. The term doesn’t get used just to allow for the existence of Manchin and Sinema. It is a total euphemism and a whitewash for a bunch of closeted republican operatives.

Totally agree with Josh’s analysis of the Afghan situation and press tantrum. Viet Nam refugee streams continued for years. What is more immediate is that Afghanistan is running out of money, food, water and electricity. Some sort of donor support has to be reinstated or there will be a real mess. Moreover, armed conflict is the biggest driver of poverty, which is why rural areas have tended to get poorer in recent decades while urban life took on many globally normal features. Governance only begins with an end to armed conflict.
