Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) announced his retirement Monday morning, saying that “the time has come for a change.”
Bye, Felicia!
Someone figured out it would be a long time before he was again chairman. In the minority for a decade(s) sucks.
Rats, ship, etc. Bye.
I still think there is something else going on over in Texas. Like, the state legislature scandal has another, much bigger, boot to drop or something.
It’s interesting how this is metastasizing in Texas specifically. Yes, they’ll be in the minority in the House of Reps. but the State is going through something that goes beyond just that. I guess we’ll find out within the next few election cycles.
The time has come today!
Reminds me of the Jeff Flake op-ed. Though their district/state are different, I hope these people retire because they see the light. Even if the seat remains in rethugs’ hands, it’d be good to know that someone can’t stand ttump anymore.
By the odds, at least one Senator should have retired also. That’s where it counts the most. What’s it going to take?
The 13th district went for President Donald Trump in 2016 by a whopping 80 percent
Sounds like a hellhole.
Naw, they’re in the majority. And Senators, with their long terms, have some level of immunity to just wait things out, plus Senators have more individual powers than Congresscritters.
When you’re in the minority in the House, not much fun to be had there.
This is a district that went 80% for Trump and I can’t imagine that it could go Dem no matter what happens. Maybe he is bored of being a member of the minority party and figures he could do more damage somewhere else.
Time for my semi-regular reminder that Dems can take control of the Texas House with a pickup of 9 seats (out of 150) in 2020. If they manage to do so – it’s a reach, but far from impossible – they can block another partisan gerrymander and ensure that Texas is at least purple for the next decade.
You won’t have the marvellous Marv Thornberry to kick around any more. It’s just no fun being in the minority.
The usual. Live boy or dead girl.
Nah, the Panhandle freezes over pretty regularly during the winter.
“I have decided to retire from Congress in order to spend more time with my indefensible pro-Trump voting record.” - Rep. Mac Thornberry (POS-TX)
Exeunt stage right.
As far as Lindsey Graham is concerned, I cannot imagine any live boy or dead girl with taste that bad.
Perhaps a frisky llama!
