So has hell, since Nov 2016.
The latest TX republican to get that spine-tingling sensation of a brutal 2020 election cycle in which the republican party gets demolished.
Good riddance as another TexASS RepubliKKKlan quits!
It’s texas. Think ambitious longhorn. Don’t tell devin.
The district is R+80. As long as he doesn’t belch on stage too often or drop his gun in public, he doesn’t have to work for it.
Something weird.
I think it was a 538 podcast that suggested that Texas has a particularly early filing deadline for House primaries that likely is driving early Texas House retirement announcements:
(1) These retirees from safe districts in Texas aren’t bullish on the R chances of taking back the House (and don’t enjoy their place in the Minority);
(2) They’re still party loyalists looking to give the local Texas GOP plenty of time to recruit replacements in advance of Texas’s primaries (in only five months now; filing deadline in three months); and
(3) If so, we’ll see R MoCs including from safe districts in other states follow suit as their states’ filing deadlines become the next ones up.
I personally try not to get too excited about much this far out because of that time that I thought that the GOP would have to reinvent itself into something rational for the next political cycle (2020) when it became clear that it was nominating a game show host for the 2016 presidential election. I don’t know the calendar of filing deadlines for other states, but I’ll end up checking if we see a pattern like this where we get a bunch all from another state.
TX-13 is roughly R+60-65, depending on the election year. Which is still pretty inefficient from a partisan gerrymandering perspective. That margin would be the kind of district Democrats would draw to pack GOP voters into as few seats as possible.
Yup, better to go off and grift for a while than sit around and get hit by the shit that is going to be sprayed everywhere when the D’s have the white house back and look into systematic corruption.
Unfortunately, no take over chance in this +33 R district. Everyone who was smart left a long time ago, and those remaining are smack addled inbred Jesus freaks. Only way to improve this district is with neutron bombs.
I had a terrible birthday last year but I can tell that this one is going to be magnificent. We are so close to hanging the fat motherfucker and hanging the rest of the GOP right next to him!!!
The filing window for the 2020 primary in Texas is November 9 through December 9 of this year. First day of early voting is February 18, with the primary election on March 3. So yeah, we’re getting close to some real deadlines.
Note also that the Dec. 9 deadline is why it is basically inconceivable that Beto O’Rourke will be a candidate for Senate next year.
Beto wants a VP slot is my guess
From your lips to the wiggling appendages of the flying spaghetti monster!
Hahaha! Here’s another one who’s biting more than just dust.
Nobody is going to give Beto a VP slot. If he still has political ambitions after ending his current campaign, he should run for governor in 2022.
ETA: Sounds like Collins knows the shelf life of a MangoMan Pardon is now considerably shorter.
I just listened to an interview with Jeff Flake on Slate’s What Next, and it made me think.
I know how much people like to diss Flake as an ineffectual piece of shit, but what he is is a thoughtful, soft-spoken guy who is as conservative as you would expect a Mormon Senator from AZ to be. I never voted for him, and I disagree with almost every position he holds. One of the things he said in the interview was that if an impeachment vote were held in secret 35 Republicans would vote to impeach. He also said that the animus and bad faith of the Republicans (he mentioned the Merrick Garland debacle in particular) are what put Trump into power. But the thing he said that struck me the most was when he said there is no place whatsoever for him in the Republican party anymore.
I know it is not a new epiphany, but if there is no place for someone like Jeff Fucking Flake in the GOP, we are truly in a whole new world. It scares me, because I keep hearing people, notably a lot of Dems, say that once Trump is gone the fever dream will subside and we will be able to get back to some version of normalcy. But that is gone, and it has been gone since Newt Gingrich declared winning as the only thing that matters. McConnell likes to say making policy is for winners - the losers go home. But apparently the losers also get to pick apart and reverse everything the winners tried to accomplish when they had the majority - if you are a Republican. We now have the sane and the insane parties in American politics - this is the thing the founding fathers feared the most. And every protection they tried to put into place has fallen by the wayside or become an obsolete notion in the modern era of billion dollar propaganda and political warfare.
As I noted in a separate post, Trump’s re-election war chest is dumping 10 million dollars into an ad buy against Biden saying he is the real crook in Ukraine, yatayataya. They literally have an almost infinite amount of money to spend over the next year thanks to the support of all of the people to whom the tax breaks were a real thing. The Citizens United decision has changed the landscape of American politics forever, and until it is undone, the vested interests in our system will continue to have the tanks and the bombs while we continue to rely on truth, science, and logic as our weapons of choice.
Buddy Hackett!
Well we will see, it is a big state with a lot of votes.
