West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) announced on Tuesday that he had beefed up his COVID-19 vaccine lottery program on Tuesday with some very American prizes.
along with two “brand new, custom-fitted” trucks.
Other prizes include two four-year scholarships to any West Virginia school, two 25-weekend getaway passes to the state’s parks, five lifetime hunting and fishing licenses, and a million dollars.
Sounds like I should have waited on my vaxxing, but I don’t play idiocracy.
I couldn’t convince my employer here in SE Pennsylvania to give $100 bonus checks to employees who got vaccinated. And now red states are offering lotteries, trucks and guns as a “reward” for waiting so long to get vaccinated?
Is this a SAT question asking which prize does not belong on this list? And if you guessed a four year education, you’re probably already vaccinated.
Sigh…I’m old enough to remember when cold pizzas and Big Macs were enough encouragement for the deplorables.
If you pick the right school, that’s a four year party with a sheepskin. (not picking on WV schools, every state has those types of “education” rides available so long as the checks clear)
That seems to be the price we pay for having “common sense.” To incentivize people who lack anything of the sort, you sometimes have to “penalize” the people who just did the right thing straight off the bat. People who can’t see it’s in their self-interest to get the vaccine need a more tangible self-interest to motivate them to do it and we all need them to get the shot or it undermines everyone’s safety due to lingering presence of the virus leading to the risk of adverse mutations.
Their selfishness and sense of entitlement couldn’t be clearer. After all, if you had real objections to the vaccine, a mere offer of a chance to win a prize shouldn’t dissuade you from your “heartfelt objections”.
I’m guessing that, like in Ohio, anyone who has been vaccinated by the drawing is eligible for the lottery. The first million dollar winner in Ohio had been vaccinated way before the lottery was announced.
At first I thought they meant a gun for every person getting a shot, but now that I know the details, that seems pretty cheap compared to DeWine’s lottery. You could buy a custom-fitted truck and two guns and have a lot to spare if you won a million.
