Manchin is the 2020s version of Joe LIEberman.

Sixty-four dollar question.

It wouldn’t be just stories about ā€œdisarrayā€ and so forth. Certain senators, both Democrats and Republicans, will make more demands.

Although, of course, all of this, every bit of it, was bound to happen in a tied Senate.

I find it difficult to imagine Joe Biden having a ā€œshit list.ā€
I would expect it to be more of a ā€œI’m very disappointed in you; now let’s work together on this like reasonable peopleā€ list.

Doesn’t have to work. Just has to threaten him by threatening a split vote and low turnout even if he wins the primary.

The press is calling him the most powerful member of the Senate.

God, the Democrats do it again. Unbelievable - bowing to the misogynist wing of the party.

He has an undergrad degree in economics from Stanford, and a law degree from the same. Oh and his wife who he met at Stanford went to Harvard Medical School. So there’s that.

He does have a long memory – and is human in most other ways! – but he’s also a professional politician. If Tanden’s nomination could have been secured by giving him something in return, he’d have made the deal and we would not be where we are.

Yes, and will – if it comes up for a vote, in his committee and on the floor.

Ok, so is one of those a PhD or something that they’re debating the ā€˜doctor’ title?

I guess I’m confused about what all the hubbub is about.

They claim he needs a medical degree, yeah like Price or Azar had one of those. Then they’re claiming he he doesn’t have the policy chops. Well I think a Dem who was a representative for 13 years, sitting on several and chairing several of the most important committees knows a fucking thing or two about policy. He’s not a Republican after all.

Arizona is one thing. In West Virginia who could beat Manchin in a primary and then win in November?

As I said, it just has to threaten HIS ability to win to be a functional threat.

As to laying down supine and not even trying, accepting the status quo, I’m not exactly for it.

Nothingberder. Very Serious People have assured us that his principled opposition is solely due to her use of ā€œMoscow Mitchā€ on twitter, along with 11.9 million other people.

This is a really misguided comment.
You can do what you can do. If it is not possible to do, then you do something else.

Part of Manchin’s problem, I agree.

My first impression with this story was good for Tanden.

It’s not a functional threat if it could result in Mitch McConnell having the Senate again.
