Yeah. He doesn’t want her on policy positions (fracking on govt land), but Biden doesn’t want that either. I’m not sure how not confirming Haaland gives Manchin anything but a fig leaf to protect him for his donors.

In my humble opinion, withdrawing Tanden over fear of “black eye” is equivalent to withdrawing a bill in the Senate for fear of losing the cloture vote (I think that is the right term) and breaking the first rule in Timothy Snyder’s book “On Tyranny,” namely Do Not Obey In Advance.

It looks like Manchin’s problem is his thin skin. Apparently Tanden commented negatively about the price gouging on Epi-pens (they went from about $100 to $600 overnight.) Manchin’s daughter is the Mylan exec that thought that was a good idea and got a direct benefit in her pay-pack. No idea how many lives that cost or continues to cost.

Perhaps they are waiting for the Senate parliamentarian to decide if either of those can be in the Senate bill. She is supposed to decide today.

The worst part about her tweets are that they were at best lame ad hominem attacks. Very little commentary on exactly how bad their policies were. And doing that across the political spectrum was even less intelligent.
Time to move on to other qualified women of color recommended by the Black Caucus already.

Tom Cotton is proposing a bill to raise the minimum wage to $10/hour by 2025.
The minimum wage is already $11/hour in his own state of Arkansas.
This is the kind of bold leadership you get from today’s Republican Party.

Some of the people claiming Tanden isn’t qualified for OMB are also claiming Becerra isn’t a doctor, nor does he have policy experience, The man was in Congress for 13 terms, and was on these committees while being a Representative.

Has anyone done any research on his qualifications? I mean, yes, the listing of committees, I’m good with that, but what about his education? Has anyone gone back to the institutions he’s claimed and verified he actually went there and earned the degrees he’s said he has?
Look, this is a clear example of GOP projection because, in the last administration, at least a dozen claims of advanced degrees were debunked by the institutions that had allegedly awarded them. A simple phone call to these institutions would clear up the misconception, whether the GOP likes it or not.

The tweets themselves were nothing. The issue is that she made them in today’s political environment which make some of her judgement ( as least in how to play politics in America ) suspect. Tweets accomplish nothing in so far as policy is concerned. But they do set you up for bogus partisan pearl clutching …and that she got. It’s ludicrous to claim her tweets offensive but stand by Trump’s. I’d like to know what this delay is really about. If Manchin is still out and no GOP’er is in she should withdraw.

Agreed the Rs have rolled out the fainting couch so they can hide behind this reasoning, but they weren’t going to vote for her anyway. Unfortunately, Manchin is also using this cover because WV.
It’s not fair, but it is reality, so Ds had better plan for it.
