The Senate voted Wednesday to acquit President Trump of charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress related to his Ukraine conduct, bringing to an end a fast-tracked two-week impeachment trial.
So what happened to all those saying (other than Mitt) that they would vote to convict. Looks like Mitt is standing by himself - the only honorable GOP Senator in the bunch.
I’m so cynical, I’m not even sure Romney was being courageous. He split his vote, and he knew it would not change the outcome. Could simply be solidifying his reputation as independent & moral.
Nevertheless I’m glad he did it. It does break the party line acquital. And maybe his stance helped the wobbly Dems - Sinema, Jones, Manchin - stay with the Dems.
If this were a one-off improper action–never to be done again–meriting Impeachment, followed by a fair trial with witnesses and their testimony and followed by geniune contrition that would be one thing.
But there is neither here.
But what is exponentially worse is that this is NOT a one-off action. NOT an action never to be done again.
This is an ongoing criminal operation…a man who will Repeat wrongdoing GOING FORWARD. Wrongdoing which includes cheating to get re-elected. Executed by a criminal who is unrepentant, unrestrained and untethered…enabled by a corrupt and complicit DOJ and GOP Senate
So, I guess we’re moving back to the era pitchforks, fire and tumbrils.
Kind of a reimagining of recent eastern European history.
Tickets for the Ceausescu Choo Choo, anyone?
I can guarantee you that my 40 year old son in law and 38 year old daughter are totally unaware that this has even happened.
Don’t count on that generation - they stopped watching the news years ago, because they no longer trust those institutions. Once this government starts impacting them, then they might start paying attention, but until then, they want nothing to do with it.
