Senate Acquits Trump Leaving The Presidency Unbound And Unaccountable | Talking Points Memo

I’m thinking “Running Man”, and too bad Richard Dawson died he could have played the hell out the Trump character, it’s all about the ratings.

"THIS LOOKS BROKEN DOWN " would probably be closer. And that may the only message available if reality is the gauge.
We are back to 1775.

Having Big Government back is going to be so useful to us going forward.

Thanks, Republicans!

I can envision Trump easily over-playing his aquital.

He’s going to open up a new branch of his great new ruble-washing business and call it “FEALTY REALTY.”

Uh…let’s pause on asserting blanket generational stereotypes. I’m 38 years old. I was arrested in DC in 2003 for protesting the Iraq War. I know exactly what is going on and has been going on the last 20years. And so do my friends.

Who said they’d vote to convict? A lot of them were admitting that there was no question of his guilt, but that they’d give him a mulligan for this reason or that.

Stalin executed 30,000 officers in the Red Army in 1941 to keep them in line. The Battle of Moscow was over in January 1942 with over a million Russians dead. And the Russians won! Unfortunately, this looks like the GOP blueprint for the 2020 election.

There was an awful lot of stuff on the Liveblog thread, going back 500 or so posts that made it appear we would have a couple of additional crossovers, once Mitt announced.

You might have thought he was crazy before, but you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Well…things gonna get real interesting once they open investigations into the people on his enemy list. And it won’t be limited to Bolton.

Not only unbridled but congressionally-supported wild criminality to destroy what remains of our democracy is coming, guaranteed. Hard to see how peaceful means can fix America. Think of Germany and Japan: that time, America was a force for good. Now who is going to bring the new malignant nation to heel?

So, when will the Donald start paying back the Republicans by stabbing them in the back? You know he will.

Can’t agree with this more. And that a very weak might start paying attention.

I was at the gym. Everyone over 55 was watching the televisions, no one under 55 was looking up from their phones. It’s disheartening.

Also, apparently his first tweet was trolling about how he’ll never leave office. Or maybe not trolling. Happy, GOP?

Again, as with everything, I’ll believe it when I see it. You’re already aware that your age group is the least likely to participate in elections - the older the voter, the more likely to vote.

I’ve never understood that - I was nine months pregnant in 1980 - due in a matter of days - and still managed to get myself out to the polls. The demographics for 20 - 30 year olds is pretty bad and has been for a while.

Bloomberg/Romney 2020!

Or is it Romney/Bloomberg…

(jk obviously–but reality has a way of imitating bad art these days)

That shameful legacy began in 2016 when he decided to not schedule hearings for Merrick Garland but instead to wait for a R to be in the WH. Hello, Neil Gorsuch!

Look, this was pre-ordained, but (1) Romney did a real favor. He gave a hard hitting explanation of why Trump needed to be removed. He is now the person against whom every other republican will be measured and found wanting. Trump can’t claim it was partisan. (2) Romney gives us the advertisements. What he said will but cut in with Collins/Gardner/McNasty/Earnst’s subserviance and violation of their oaths.

My guess is that Romney may have just cost an extra 1-2 senators their seats in 2020, and a few beyond that (e.g. Toomey in PA in 2022).

So look on the bright side. Now all we need to do is get an electable (not a socialist/communist) candidate to beat Trump.

We can hope they were watching it on their phones, but yeah, I know.
