Amid what it said was an ongoing investigation, the Ohio National Guard released the name of a member facing removal from the organization after allegedly expressing white supremacist views.
A National Guard spokesman said Pfc. Shandon Simpson “has been processed for separation,” but would not elaborate, citing the investigation.
I would have a bit more respect for Senator Tim Scott if he was a bit more discerning & measured when it came to issues upon which he had great potential to impact.
He is certainly entitled to hold his own views - and when it comes to matters related to race, he is also entitled to have a perspective that differs from various other members of the Black community .
But … as a member of the of the Black community, it would seem that he might summon up the patience, perseverance and calm discernment to try to not make inflammatory accusations of “Race Politics” - it does little to advance the greater cause, it leaves him appearing to be a bit disingenuous and it really ends up fueling the race-baiting divisiveness that Trump seeks to promote.
Maybe Tim Scott’s personal view is that Racial issues warrant consideration - but nothing really dramatic - maybe just a tune-up ? But - that is rather hard to believe … it really appears that his views are malleable & are massaged to not rock the boat within the GOP …
It would be refreshing if he showed some serious spine - it has been possible in the past for a Republican to largely be consistent with the usual Republican views … but to then also have a particular topic or two when they purely acted on personal principle & conviction.
New Mexico’s Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) - was a guy who stayed in the GOP lane pretty reliably - but he would break ranks and vote his heart when it came to issues of mental illness - and he did not care who it pissed off.
Make that Farrakhan supporter and conspiracy theory monger Candace Owens.
Apparently Diamond and Silk were doubting the Coronavirus body count and were dropped by Fox.
Guys like Scott put out this kind of empty, gratuitous B.S., with the added “special sauce” of feeding racial divisions in this country, and then have the nerve to protest when we treat them with the contempt that their comments earn for them.
Clearly, this is a man who is ambitious to be part of the problem, rather than part of the solution when it comes to racial divisions in our country. But, it helps him with the only audiences that he cares about.
House Democrats are expected to pass their own sweeping package of reforms on Thursday in a move that will likely land poorly with Senate Republicans who are not likely to make a deal after Democrats struck down Scott’s bill on Wednesday.
Why not point out that Republicans came up with the Senate bill on their own without Democratic input and refused to get into any negotiations with them or with the House on their bill? This was the usual “take it or leave it” approach from Republicans.
just to show you how out of touch Scott is with black voters in his home state…here is a graph showing that as the % of african americans in each county rises, Scott’s percentage of the vote falls…
The Blue line is the percentage of black residents in each county.
The orange line is the percentage of that county’s vote Scott got in 2016.
Having black skin does not automatically prevent a person from promoting policies that are racist against others with similar skin. I am sorry Mr. Scott, but your attempt to pull a switcheroo and lob accusations about playing race politics will not get me to support your racist policy.
Usually when big bills are passed there is a house senate conference that cobbles together a compromise package. This obviously didn’t happen with the tax package. The wildly distorted Pelosi comment about the ACA “we’ll know what’s in the bill when it passes” referred to the house senate conference.
