Yep. This is why I have a hard time understanding how any person of color could possibly run as a Repuke, especially an African American. I could see during Reconstruction how blacks voted Republican in wanting to be associated with the party of Lincoln. But not anymore. Not for a long time has it been that.
Scott is desperate to hold onto all the white folks in SC that thought they could look so ‘post-racial’ voting for his sorry ass. Once a RePuke, always a RePuke. He is a tool of the right. They need him to shield them from accusations of racism, and he’s more than willing to let them it seems.
Sorry if that all comes across too harsh but I don’t like the way Scott is playing politics with this issue because deep down I believe he knows better.

Tim Scott may be the same color as an African American but he is not their kind.
I wish Tim Scott would ask my 23 year old son, who looks much like Trayvon Martin and who was last year pulled over by the police at 2:00 in the afternoon and given a ticket for having a headlight out, what my son thinks of police using chock holds. Heck, he could just ask any Black person which brings up the key point:
Tim Scott does not represent Black people or, as Al Sharpton said about Clarence Thomas, “he is my color but not my kind”.

ETA: there are some comments in this discussion so far that employ some derogatory terms for Sen Scott that would be pretty racist in many contexts. Can we please discuss his ideas without getting into “he’s not really black” territory? The whole point of anti-racist practice is to recognize that however a person acts or what they believe of themselves, the color of their skin will always be the #1 determinant of their life in America.

I think he’s the spawn of the GOP affirmative action program, in which a small quota of minorities can quickly move up the ladder if they are willing to constantly affirm the superiority of GOP policies for improving the lives of minorities.
