I said it then and I’ll say it again. When Susan “Concerned” Collins claimed Brett Kavanaugh gave her assurances that he wouldn’t toss Roe V Wade, I said that it doesn’t matter. What matters is what they allow states to do on abortion. Sure, RvW will never actually be ruled unconstitutional but it will be strangled to death by draconian state laws that are allowed to stand.

My sister lives near Philadelphia. I was able to contact her luckily. She related the amazing things she has seen as to the incredible rain event she’s just been thru. She said something like 8 &1/2 inches fell in a day. Most of that in a very short span of time within the day. Luckily she is OK as is her home and her two adult daughters in their homes. The flooding is amazing and terrible. Shocking indeed. Just stunning.
NY Gov just said most of the rain fell in ONE hour. I’m watching cnn.

ETA: Or sue the state for a declaratory judgment that the vigilante standing provision is unconstitutional. CPRC 37.004 gives anyone “whose rights, status, or legal relations by a statute” the right to “have determined any question of construction or validity” arising under the statute.

That’s such an awesome answer. Third trimester abortions are usually the result of impossible choices and unspeakable pain. I can’t imagine facing the loss of a wanted baby and then having to run a gauntlet of clinic protesters
The tiny handful of third trimester terminations that were not wanted pregnancies speak of a different set of painful circumstances- usually deep poverty and family violence

Unfortunately for all of us, there is a substantial part of 640,000 dead Americans who could’ve testified that, why, yes, the reactionaries will sacrifice the welfare of their constituents for perceived political gain.
Which is really all I gotta say about the red state governors hurrying to jump on the Texas anti-abortion bill bandwagon.
It’d be nice if the people of their states would be a little quicker on the uptake.

Another problem that will come out of this awful law is that abusive exes will use it to continue to harass women who are trying to get away from them. It’ll be “Come back to me, or I’m turning in your mom/dad/sister/BFF.”
I doubt they gained much ground with CRT, but I can assure you they definitely lost ground with this law going into effect. It may not have been much were it not for the lack of exemption for rape or incest because every woman I know has either been raped, sexually molested, and/or experienced an unwanted/unplanned pregnancy at some point in their lives. A scary number of women have been through all three. Every woman breathing knows what this means for some little girls in TX. Anecdotally speaking, I haven’t seen white women this mad since they discovered that Beyonce is indeed Black.
