Schumer Will Ask Senate To Vote To Condemn Trump’s Call To ‘Defund’ Federal Law Enforcement

Behold the GOP, the party of Law and Order™.

House GOP’s calls for defunding federal law enforcement in response to Trump’s indictment is divorced from reality, as the DOJ and the FBI are not involved in the former president’s criminal prosecution by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump was charged under New York law with 34 counts of falsifying business records.

I am not entirely sure that DFG and his cult actually understand this distinction.

Voting to condemn or abstaining means MAGA rage and maybe a crazy primary challenger. That’s a win for Team D.

Voting to defund means general election pain. That’s a win for Team D.

Win/win!

I would like to go back in time and strangle the first person who thought “defunding the police” was a good slogan. I am sick of hearing it, I am even more sick of hearing it explained, and now I can get sick of each side accusing the other of it.

Kinda the point, to force the GOP (at least in the Senate) to go on record and break with Trump over it.

I don’t think so. It’s all part of the relentless attack on democracy. Get them on record.

The point is, the GOP Senators will have to go on record as either condemning Trump, or “Defunding Law Enforcement”.

We’ve flipped their magat talking point.
I’ll take the win.
“Lock Her Up” hasn’t aged very well for them either.

Not really. They can just vote no while calling this a political stunt and saying there is no need to condemn Trump as he is a private citizen. The voters can decide whether they agree with his policies or not in an election. It would be a stronger move to somehow force the Senate to vote on actual law enforcement funding.

Exactly. The Republicans will try get it to be a voice vote. Schumer shouldn’t allow that. Make them decide.

And this defangs the criticism against Democrats who said “defund the police.”

They can say whatever they want. But if they don’t vote for condemning Trump they will hear about in the general election and if they do they will hear from Trump right away and they will hear more about it in the primary. The best thing for them is to call in sick.

Everyone should read the proposal Schumer has set out. He uses the words “recognizes”, “condemns” and “rejects”, and I hope there’s stronger language to come followed by definitive and damning action.

Defund the alphabets until Trump gets back in. Then weaponize them like never before. Make them his personal goon squad. Roy Cohn revenge - hit back 10x harder.

TV ads are running here in San Francisco asking people to join the SFPD. It appears people don’t want to be met with assault weapons when they’re called to the scene of a crime, but they’re being asked to be good citizens.
