Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced that the House will deliver President Donald Trump’s article of impeachment to the Senate on Monday.
Any time Mitch McConnell—no longer Senate majority leader—asserts how the Democrats should follow the rules and do what’s right, Democrats should visualize his refusal to hold hearings for Merrick Garland and his ramrodding through Amy Coney Barrett in 8 days.
Its the demand that Democrats commit to keeping the filibuster before Senate Republicans agree to the rules governing the Senate for this session of Congress.
Basically, McConnell wants Democrats to pre-emptively commit to the Senate GOP being allowed to obstruct whatever and as much as they want. Schumer has correctly told McConnell where he can stuff that demand.
I don’t think is a reference to employing the filibusterer but to keeping it as a parliamentary procedure. McConnell wants to preserve it and Schumer said stuff it.
I love it! Chuck is making it clear that he is in charge and Mitch will have to dance to his tune.
Chuck spent ten years gritting his teeth while Mitch played his destructive games and, I think, he’s had enough. He’s in a position to fight back now, and, by George, I think he’s gonna do it. In a civil, unifying way, of course.
I’m not sure McConnell realizes how much the ACB vote before the election radicalized even centrist and institutionalist Senate Democrats. It made it undeniable that the Senate GOP will violate any rule or precedent, if doing so helps them.
This really does unify the country. Democrats are up in arms over the insurrection, Republicans are up in arms over the unfairness of it all, there are arms up everywhere. Better to have your arms up than to take up arms, and if everybody’s arms are up, nobody can shoot or get shot.
McConnell has always been a brilliant tactician but never much good at long term strategy. ACB fit that evaluation to the tea. She never helped Trump and his ramrodding her nomination through was a slap in the face of every Democrat at a time when he should have realized the winds were shifting.
Well that’ll put a fly in Mitch’s cereal.
He’s grabbing for far too much anyway. Mitch needs some serious comeuppance from somebody. Schumer should have the nuts to dress Mitch down but he’s being too accommodating from the limited info I have to go on. Mitch is the remaining evil left from the past decade or three.
And now that donnie is not in office he is open to all sorts of legal problems. The DoJ immunity memo does not apply any longer to him. But now, that same memo applies to Mr Biden and my humble opining is it should be abolished as you are correct. No one should be above the law… ever. No matter their office or wealth status.
