Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sounded the alarm to his colleagues on Sunday, a day before Vice President Mike Pence will preside over Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation vote. Pence is set to appear on the Senate floor on Monday despite several of the VP’s aides testing positive for COVID-19.
Well since they’re going to ram this through no matter what, only thing to do is to fully exploit the optics for the campaign.
And since Covid19 is playing to Biden, play up the contamination - D Senators in N95s and Face Shields - full up. Point out non-respect of CDC - point out foolish risk to others.
And the Rs, well… they’ll be idiots and spread contamination.
I keep getting haunted by the fact that there are people plotting right now to expose Biden to the corona virus. Call me paranoid, but I believe that 30% of the GOP has reached the stage of tribal warfare where they think that would be a perfectly fine thing to do.
Democrat should hold a press conference in a separate facility concurrent with the vote, blasting Meadows, Pence, and the Republican response to the Coronavirus that has rendered a confirmation vote for SCOTUS unsafe.
Chuck, you really don’t have to show, you know. From a purely political standpoint, think what a picture that would make. I can hear the story now.
"Tonight, not only did a single Democratic senator vote to create Justice Amy Barrett, they didn’t vote no’ either. They refused to even show up.
“It took some bending of the rules for Senator Mitch McConnell and the Republicans but they finally got the Supreme Court they wanted.”
It’s not petulance. The GOP Coc…er…Republicans are looking at a huge Pyrrhic victory here. If the Democrats can stay enraged, it would lay the groundwork for legislation to enlarge the court and eliminate the filibuster.
This whole administration’s behavior (and that of the larger GOP as well) re both their zeal in ramming through Barrett’s confirmation and their disregard of COVID reminds me of a certain bus line in Mexico. Back when I lived there, the bus line’s safety record was so bad that people “joked” that its motto was, “Better dead than late.”
