Former Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) announced his campaign against President Donald Trump on Sunday–a day after the Republican Party in his home state cancelled the GOP presidential primary for this election cycle.
The former GOP congressman, who was a relatively consistent Trump critic before he lost to his primary challenger in 2018, cited high deficit spending as his motivation to defeat Trump. (Former SC rep. R)
That’s your reason for challenging him? Jeeze, dude. Weakest tea.
That’s old school from what I’ve seen. I’ve been noticing a trend to refer to their most recent elected position, but I’m with you – it should be their highest former elected position.
Especially when they’re challenging ttump. I think referring to him as a Rep makes him seem dependent on ttump, which is not helpful. I’d like ttump to be minimized in every way.
There’s something vaguely Don Quixotic about Sanford. Leaving his state while Governor to chase a romantic dream in Argentina while claiming to be hiking the Appalachian Trail; running in the Republican Primary for President despite losing a race in his own district and his state shutting down the Primary process. And the most tilting at windmillish thing ever -thinking Republicans give a damn about the deficit, when they’ve been spending and looting the Treasury like crazed pirates.
Despite the morally repugnant things he’s done and his reactionary stance on most issues, I don’t find him completely unlikeable, as opposed to how I feel about many other Republicans.
