Rudy Giuliani asked a prosecutor in Antrim County, Michigan to hand over his county’s voting machines to Donald Trump’s team in the aftermath of the 2020 election, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
Well they only finished the privilege review of the electronic devices they seized from Rudy about a month ago, so the investigators only got their first look at the materials just recently. I wouldn’t worry too hard about Rudy escaping justice.
Unless or until he gets a sympathetic judge or claims mental incompetence. Both options are very much in play here with such a high-profile situation. Not like neither one of these has happened before.
Or, of course, he kicks off before the judicial system has its chance with him. Again, a viable option, since he is 77 years old. I know only the good die young, but he’s edging closer to that moment.
“It’s no secret I run on the Republican ticket. But I told them, ‘It’s not about who wins or loses. It needs to be fair,’” he added
Giuliani: Well, I’m awfully sorry; I don’t understand. No, no, no, I don’t follow this at all, I mean, I don’t want to seem stupid but it looks to me as though you think the GOP give’s a rat’s ass about “fairness.”
Not snark to me. When Trump won in 2016, I had underestimated his laziness. I was convinced he would get legislation passed to sue the Fourth Estate in ways amenable to totalitarian rulers.
In addition, I thought that he had the ability to get legislation passed for the type of infrastructure which would result in a jump in his approval ratings.
Luckily for us his path was not in those directions.
Rudy would obviously be granted pretrial release, and my bet is that his liver will kill him before he sees the inside of a prison. And my long-standing prediction for Trump is that his fragile psyche will never allow him to serve time, so he’ll stroke out between conviction and sentencing.
The prosecutor did the correct thing in refusing in assisting to turn over the machines to an interested party - but the fact that Team Trump got access to them without representatives of the other party present is worrying. Further the fact that Giuliani continued to cite a report that was riddled with inconvenient wrong facts and conclusions is a violation of his duty as an attorney to the truth when speaking to the public. I know he will get disbarred, but more punishment needs to come his way and to his boss. I am pretty confident we will see Giuliani in the docket as a defendant soon, but I am see confident as to the Great Orange Sack of Puss that his boss
He’s the epitome of the indolent decrying the indolent. And he has no cherished beliefs or ambitions, just wanton desires. Not a great recipe for broad action.
In Rudy’s defense, “election interference” is a lot closer to “legitimate political discourse” than “terrorism” (what the RNC has thrown its considerable weight behind).
Aw, why not throw them all in jail? Just because they do their sedition out in the open, that doesn’t mean it is okay.
