Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is widely expected to be elected House GOP conference chair, but Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) who announced a challenge on Thursday is highlighting his conservative voting record as among his qualifications for the role.
“Can’t imagine Republican House Members would go with Chip Roy — he has not done a great job, and will probably be successfully primaried in his own district,” Trump said in a statement. “I support Elise, by far, over Chip!”
Yep, and I just checked out his district. It’s R+5 and one that has been trending purple. It will likely flip in the next cycle or two. So, yeah, Donnie, go ahead and send in a hard right wing challenger who’ll probably beat Roy and lose the seat.
“Not in congress”? They passed that stupid tax cut like four years ago. How is someone who wasn’t in congress four years ago a plausible pick for the conference chair?
He’s plausible because 2 days ago he said that “The United States must stand fully and unequivocally behind Israel” so that gets him the support of Dobson and Hagge and the rest of the fundies.
Missing from the graphic however, is what has appeared to become a core credential for the No. 3 role: support for Trump’s election lie.
Stefanik had objected to the final certification of Electoral College votes in some states challenged by Trump loyalists on Jan. 6, while Roy voted to certify the election.
I’m quite sure that whoever discovered this little tidbit is a woman, because…
I don’t like his chances, but personally, I hope he gets it. I’d much prefer him to Stefanik.
His vote to certify the election shows that he’s got some respect for democratic principles, even if he’s on the wrong side of everything. I’d much prefer a right-winger with some principles to a “moderate” with none.
