Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has some explaining to do after the Jan. 6 Select Committee’s public hearing on Tuesday, in which the panel revealed his staff’s apparent involvement in a fake electors scheme to help then-President Trump overturn the 2020 election results.
“I was not involved in this at all. I don’t know why you’re asking me questions, so why don’t you just leave me alone?” Johnson said as he attempted to flee from reporters.
“I was aware that we got this package and that somebody wanted us to deliver it so we reached out” to Pence’s office.
It will be a pleasure to see this asshole go down in November. Or is Wisconsin one of the states that has declared Democratic victories will not stand?
As crazy as this issue is, I doubt it will actually hurt Johnson much. Unfortunately, this story is a bit too weird for it to make sense to the average voter so most Wisconsin voters probably won’t consider it important. In other words, if you don’t already know what Johnson did and why it was so wrong, you probably never will.
Johnson also isn’t likely to face and criminal charges for this since the package was never delivered to Pence and it’s unlikely anyone can prove definitively that Johnson knew about it while this was happening. “I had no idea what my staff was doing, or even what I was doing” is still a defense that gets most politicians out of trouble most of the time.
So his intern tried to cause Pence to use an alternative (fraudulent) slate of electors by handing him an envelope the contents of which RonJon knew nothing about… No big deal. RonJon was cool either way. Real electors, fake electors, whatever. It’s not like this would have turned into a massive event in US history. Total non-story.
So if someone delivered a box (that could hypothetically contain a timed explosive device) and told you to deliver it to the Vice President and you didn’t know or ask where it came from or who sent it or what was in it, and you delivered it no questions asked and then it killed the VP, could you use the RonJon excuse?
We’re coming up on the 1st anniversary (July 1st) of the formation of the Jan6th Select Committee.
That day will be 541 days since the insurrection itself.
Imagine being in RonJohn’s shoes now, only just Monday still thinking you’d gotten away with it, only to be discovered all these months later that you were balls deep in the conspiracy to steal an election.
Those shoes are now squishy with warm piss.
Mighty hard to walk in squishy piss-shoes, while faking like you’re on a phone call:
.
One of the big eye-opening things out of the J6 hearings, that they’re now being flooded with brand-new stuff they didn’t have, despite all that time and 1,000 interviews.
Not knocking them at all, just seems that fence-sitters have decided to take the plunge and not be the last hold-out. It’s quite remarkable, really.
I suspect interns have been blamed for screw-ups since the first intern got signed up.
I should also note here, that Josh refers to the intern in his https://talkingpointsmemo.com/prime/why-so-bashful article as “unnamed” when in fact the guy’s name is right there on the screen shots of the text exchange shown 20 ft tall at the hearing…. Bet that’s not how Sean Riley wanted to make a name for himself.
