On its third night, the Republican National Convention served up two straight hours of nearly identical direct camera addresses, all before a cement wall festooned with approximately eight million American flags.
allow me to suggest that you’ve become inured to the horrors of Trump – and if that is the case, Josh really needs to give you some vacation time…
And as I previously wondered about the our newly minted US citizens, two of the women had no idea that they were going to be used in a political ad. They didn’t give their consent for this. And as one MSNBC commentator pointed out Chad ain’t legal, and all of those new citizens need to get themselves to a federal judge and have a do over.
Meanwhile, while Trump is trying to distract the rubes with shiny objects, here’s what he’s been up to as Hurricane Laura bears down on the Gulf Coast:
Robbing Peter to pay Paul so the Orange Menace can pretend to have done something…all illusions and delusions of executive powers!
BTW, was Pence auditioning to be the next Liar-In-Chief with all his lies or just paying homage to his mythomaniac boss or full capitulation to trumpism ?
Mike Pence’s R.N.C. speech will go down in history as a memorable example of how establishment Republicans have utterly capitulated to Donald Trump, debasing themselves and their party in the process, @JohnCassidy writes. https://t.co/ksUlfyBsM8
Emily Miller, who used to work for the pro-Trump propaganda outlet One America News, became the spokesperson for the Food and Drug Administration in August, taking over a position “typically filled by nonpolitical civil servants.” Miller, who recently appeared on Sean Spicer’s Newsmax show identified as a “political strategist,” does not fit this description. She pushed COVID-19 misinformation and conspiracy theories on Facebook and Twitter prior to taking over her new role, and she is a committed pro-Trump sycophant.
The headline is a masterfully concise description of the evening. Boring but crazy. Bizarre and banal. Outrageously predictable. Delusional dullardry. All you really have to say is that Mike Pence was the keynote speaker and that’s the whole story right there. He’s a huge and insane liar, but it’s couched in this smarmy God-boy worldview where he literally talks about the flag and his mom and all that stupid Chamber of Commerce bullshit in the middle of a pandemic, economic collapse, and authoritarian rot that makes the sane majority want to vomit at how far we’ve sunk.
I wouldn’t watch a nanosecond of it, because I value my health and sanity. But from what I’ve heard when on, it is pretty clear this is an absolute base strategy. Has that ever happened? Where a major candidate has closed off any possibility of reaching out to independents, moderates, swing voters (if there are any left)? Why don’t they just come out and say We Hate All Non-White People And Fuck Anyone Who Doesn’t Like Us, Wait Till We Suppress Your Vote? Maybe that’s coming.
Day 3 was a boring joke. To hold it now and sneer at the reality of multiple crises affecting the country just showed how out of touch these guys are. This convention will have no impact on the polls and will probably cost the GOP a point or two in about two weeks. We crossed 6 million corona virus cases. Southwest Louisiana is about to be reclaimed by the ocean. We have a crisis of racial justice in which a Trumper terrorist murdered protesters. The NBA’s season may have ended. The GOP’s awkward phrasing and just petty, nasty and vile racist bs is just boring to all of us now.
What is it with college sports coaches and wingnut politics? You have the unhinged Bobby Knight who appeared at Trump rallies.
Tonight there’s former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz speaking about being pro-life or more like forced birth.
Here he is from the 2016 Republican convention. Doesn’t sound very Catholic or pro-life to me.
“Holtz, who supports Donald Trump, was speaking at a luncheon during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. “I don’t want to become you,” Holtz said of immigrants, according to the Daily Beast. “I don’t want to speak your language, I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team!”
