Richard Painter Says Trump Should Be Jailed If Pardon Promise Over Wall Is True

The former White House ethics lawyer to President George W. Bush believes it’s high time President Trump was jailed if he promised to pardon people over the border wall.

Happy to hear him say that, particularly given his credentials as a former ethics official under George W (so not a liberal Dem). And he’s right, of course.

Then again, there are so many other things for which the Orange Excrescence should be jailed.

Richard Painter is the epitome of the word ineffectual.

Politically, some impeachable offences are difficult to explain to the general public. But encouraging people to break the law with the promise of a pardon? Easy-peasy!

I’m shocked this information leaked into the public realm. I’d always assumed, I guess, he had these sorts of conversations with his various capos and soldiers while shambling down Pennsylvania Avenue in his bathrobe.

Trump said he was “joking”

That is one of the ways he backtracks.

Joke=Backtrack

it’s interesting that it’s always people from the party formerly known as Republican who insist that the House impeach knowing their fellow travelers in the Senate will acquit handing trump a huge win going into the elections. Don’t fall for it, it’s a classic set-up.

Yes. Promising a pardon for a not yet commited crime is bone simple misprision of a felony. Not to mention obstruction of justice, and likely bribery.

Cmon, you think he walks anywhere? This is the guy who needed a golf cart to go 1500 feet in a sicilian town when other world leaders walked.

I’m still waiting for the day when this defense is used in a courtroom.

I don’t think it’ll hold up. I hope it won’t hold up.

You just know this is the final straw for Nancy Pelosi. This time Trump has gone too far. Just wait, you’ll see.

Time to show this incompetent leader the door. He is a disgrace as a leader and so worthy of being removed from the office he no longer deserves! He should bend over and kiss his a— goodbye!

Gotta impeach Barr first if he thinks that’s the way to go since Barr himself as the top law enforcement officer is planning on paying tRump to break the law, thereby announcing he plans to break the law himself.

When your own AG is going to pay emoluments to the guy that picked you to personally represent him at the DoJ as his attorney of record…we have bigger problems than tRump breaking a single law that should land him in jail. We have a host of criminal behaviors and actions that are being aided and abetted in this maladministration.

They all need to pay a price for being traitors to the Constitution. The Congress needs to impeach Barr first and then talk about how to go after tRump. Its clear we’re in uncharted territory, but that’s no excuse for letting other enablers like Barr, who would protect and allow those pardons to go forward, off the hook.

Come on, cut me some slack please. I did say shambling. Hopefully implying there wasn’t much actual walking involved.

Okay, let’s say the House impeaches. We already know that the Republicans can lie far better than the Democrats can tell the truth. So they will use the impeachment proceedings to fire up their base. Meanwhile, what happens if they succeed in impeachment? It goes to the Senate where Moscow Mitch will kill it. Painter still has a mindset where Normal Rules apply when he thinks the House can do a whole lot on its own. None of the rules working today are normal. Trump has normalized corruption. So, sure, the House should impeach - - but sadly we are in uncharted territory, because it’s pretty clear that the party in power in the Senate has endorsed that corruption.

Stephen Miller. He’s been thinking about it since high school.

I’m wondering what the velocity differential between shambling and walking is.

Just another step in revoking citizenship of children born in USA to non citizens.
