Republicans Complete Trifecta With Tiny House Majority

Originally published at: Republicans Complete Trifecta With Tiny House Majority

Republicans have clinched the White House and Congress, though with a House majority so slim that it might hamper parts of President-Elect Donald Trump’s agenda.  Democratic losses in the House would have been much greater had these down-ballot candidates not often outpaced Vice President Kamala Harris, some holding their own in Trump districts.  Republicans will…

Oddly I seem to be simultaneously thinking of the ‘Chinese curse’ and the dog catching the car: it is going to be an absolutely awful time but maybe so awful it will (finally) initiate a national-level gag reflex.

My idiot congresscritter, Tomas Massie, knows a small majority makes him even more powerful. If his grandstanding makes Johnson’s life more miserable, I may egg on Massie for once.

America is at the stage where the guy who went past the event horizon doesn’t think anything is actually happening, so it can’t be that bad after all.

Building on Josh’s post from yesterday, I’m struck by how much the media (and many Democrats) are buying into the mandate/landslide message that the con man in chief and minions are pushing. His popular vote win is slim, and the electoral vote falls short of Obama’s and Clinton’s (though better than W’s). The Congress has a GOP majority, but even though it’s much more MAGA dominated than last time, it’s still relatively thin and subject to derailment.

I’m more concerned with executive actions, partly because the con man is even more unfocused and deranged than last time. Putin and Xi are laughing.

That there is a smallish GOP majority in the House making it harder for them to do batshit crazy things, but ordinary crazy things will be a breeze, is sort of like hearing a Tsunami warning and taking comfort in the fact that you happen to be wearing your swimsuit.

Good, now it’s all on them, and we know how that will go. Actually, this time will be worse than usual because Orangelocks will do as he pleases. Dems need to be there to pick up the pieces.

Glad to say my GOP congresswoman had her one term and will be gone soon. OR-5 has been returned to the people.

I can easily foresee Trump, owned by Putin, abandoning the Ukrainians in every single way, then negotiating an agreement to Putin’s advantage and then demanding a Nobel Peace Prize. So fucking furious.

The trifecta may not be as good as the gop thinks it will be. The house will have continuous infighting and will still need the democrats to pass needed legislation (budget).

And as I recall, the house could not pass much of anything when they had the majority. Recently and during the convicted felon’s last term.

Republicans will still likely pass tax cuts for the rich

The fall of Ukraine to the Russians should trigger a huge reaction in Europe: they need to get their act together because they can’t count on the Americans for anything.

NATO will be gone. NATO put 25 of the worlds top 30 richest and most powerful countries military’s at the U.S.'s disposal for the paltry price of the US conducting reasonable/rational diplomacy and geopolitical strategy - should be a slam dunk, but since 2001 has become increasingly too high of a price for the U.S. to pay as the Republican presidencies since 2000 have been conducted by unenlightened rogues.

NATO made the entire West European/North American/Pacific Rim nations immensely secure for very low price facilitating international flows in trade and investment and global economic growth. The decline of NATO means the rise of transaction cost for trade and investment, meaning a declining living standards all around for everybody.

The Europeans relied upon the United States for its role in liberating Europe in WWII and continuing that in the post WWII era (as did the Pacific Rim). They must have been forgetting that it was the Great Depression, which American economic instability created, which triggered the rise of Nazis in Germany and causing WWII to begin with.

At any rate, Poland has already been ratcheting up its defense programs since 2022. It has cut high level deals to share technology, design, tooling and manufacturing of advanced weapons systems with South Korea - who has their own version of the F-16 (and a new generation fighter in the works) along with an advanced tank.

Poland, for its part, is part of a Baltic association that includes Sweden and Finland. The entire Baltic association would include 70 million people with a combined GNP greater than Russias. Europe combined does have the resources to stand up to Russia, it just needs to find the right means to do that - which might be difficult. We’ll see.

We are retreating from a globalist era to a divided regions era. Thanks Donald. for the forth coming war and poverty.

Two matters:

  1. It’s proven again that a competent women can not be elected President.

  2. In a world where Matt Gaetz can be nominated as US Attorney General, anything can happen (except 1)…

How about Matt Gaetz for AG? Tulsie Gabbard for National intelligence? All I can do is laugh at this point.

It would be deeply hilarious if trump nominates his way to Speaker Jeffries. Waltz, Stefanik, and now Gaetz. I presume they won’t resign unless and until they’re confirmed.

I guess laughter is the phase we go through before the tears. i wish we could trust a republican senate to shut these appointments of ridiculous, unserious, unqualified people down but if they even have something resembling hearings they will pass with partisan majorities……God help us all
